The Shock kicked off the 2013 Net 10 Wireless Arena Football League season this weekend on the road against the Cleveland Gladiators. Shock QB Erik Meyer led the Shock to a 67-41 win while accounting for 9 total touchdowns on the day (8 passing, 1 rushing).

The Shock opened the first quarter with a five minute drive, capped off by a short touchdown pass from QB Erik Meyer to WR Adron Tennell. On Cleveland's opening possession, Gladiator QB Zbydniewski was sacked and stripped by Shock DL Marc Schiechl that would result in the Shock taking over on the Cleveland one-yard line. Shock WR Tennell would score his second touchdown of the day, taking the hand-off and walking into the end zone to give Spokane a 13-0 lead.

Opening the second quarter with the Shock leading 13-6, Spokane would go on to post four touchdowns before the end of the half. Shock WR Adron Tennell hauled in two receiving touchdowns, bringing his total to 4 touchdowns in the first half (three receiving, one rushing) while rookie Shock WR Kamar Jorden would haul in two touchdowns as well, giving Spokane the 40-20 lead to close out the first half.

Second half action would continue to highlight the on-point offense of the Shock, accompanied by a strong defensive performance to extend Spokane's hold on the lead. After Cleveland was able to score on a 4-yd touchdown run by FB Steiner on their opening drive to bring the game back within two scores, Shock QB Erik Meyer would again find Adron Tennell in the end zone to put the Shock up 46-27. Spokane's defense would then hold Cleveland to their second four-and-out of the game, taking over in the red zone and opening up a short bootleg touchdown run by Shock QB Erik Meyer to further extend the lead and end all hopes of a Cleveland comeback.

Closing out the final quarter of play, Shock defensive lineman Marc Schiechl would step in to play the fullback position after OL Tyrone Novikoff suffered a first quarter injury that would keep him out for the game. Shock QB Erik Meyer would find FB Schiechl on a quick out route and by making a diving reception, Schiechl would record his first reception and receiving touchdown of his AFL career. Spokane would go on to close the game out by a final score of 67-41.

Shock QB Erik Meyer would finish the game completing 32 of 42 passes for 284 yards and 8 touchdowns. WR Steven Black would lead the receiving effort with a team high 9 receptions and 97 yards receiving. Black was complimented by AFL rookie WR Kamar Jorden who hauled in 9 reception for 60 yards and two touchdowns, as well as WR Adron Tennell with 7 receptions for 60 yards and 4 touchdowns in the air.

Returning home on Monday from Cleveland, Spokane will begin preparations for next week's match up as they go back on the road to take on the Chicago Rush on Sunday, March 31st with a 1:00 PM PST kickoff.
