    C.J. Wilcox expected for season

Washington guard C.J. Wilcox has undergone surgery on his left foot to stabilize a stress fracture that bothered him for much of his junior season.

The school says Wilcox had the surgery on Friday. Wilcox's surgery stabilized the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2013-14 season.

    Damon Stoudamire back at Arizona

Damon Stoudamire was one of most popular players in Arizona history, an electrifying, high-scoring guard with a cool nickname.

Now Mighty Mouse is headed back to the desert.

Stoudamire was hired as an assistant coach under Sean Miller on Friday, a move that's sure to be a big hit with one of college basketball's most fervid fan bases.

"We are thrilled to welcome back Damon Stoudamire to the University of Arizona to become a part of our coaching staff," Miller said in a statement. "Damon is an immensely talented recruiter, and is also very comfortable teaching and coaching the game. More importantly, his credibility in all aspects of our game is unmatched -- he simply has 'been there and done that' at the highest level. I believe strongly that he will be invaluable in helping many of our current and future student-athletes do the same."

    2013-14 College Basketball Conference Snapshot:
    Pacific-12

After several seasons in the wilderness, the Pac-12 finally started to regain some respect last season.

    1. ARIZONA (27-6, 12-6, NCAA Sweet 16)
Key players gone: Angelo Chol, Solomon Hill, Grant Jerrett, Mark Lyons, Keith Parrom
Top returners: Brandon Ashley, Nick Johnson, Kaleb Tarczewski
New faces: Aaron Gordon (freshman), Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (freshman), T.J. McConnell (transfer from Duquesne), Elliott Pitts (freshman)
The top two scorers, Lyons and Hill, exhausted their eligibility, and Jerrett made a surprising call to enter the NBA Draft. Still, the Wildcats expect to be the Pac-12 favorites and a top-10 team. T.J. McConnell will take over at point guard after averaging 11.1 points, 4.9 assists and 4.1 rebounds in two seasons at Duquesne. He and Johnson (11.5 ppg) should make a solid backcourt pairing. Arizona also adds two freshman wings in Hollis-Jefferson and Gordon, a 6-8 forward who was the fourth-ranked recruit in the 2013 class. The key to the season may be getting Gordon to play the four.

    Oregon lands guard Joseph Young

Oregon has landed Houston transfer Joseph Young, his father told ESPN.com via text message Friday.

Young, a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 18 points per game last season for the Cougars, will become Dana Altman's latest one-year transfer. Young will likely sit out this season and have one year of eligibility left, although he could attempt to get a waiver from the NCAA to play this season.

Steve Alford's deal has $10M buyout

If Steve Alford decides to leave the UCLA Bruins or is fired in coming years, a rare yet significant buyout penalty will accompany the move.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the new Bruins coach would owe the university $10.4 million if he departed the school before April 30, 2016, the same amount the school would owe Alford if he was terminated without cause before that time.

Each successive year, the buyout would be reduced for the respective parties by $2.6 million -- his annual salary -- through 2019.

    Jahii Carson NBA-bound

Jahii Carson's early exit to the NBA has been expected since he first arrived at Arizona State two years ago.

The dynamic point guard bypassed a chance at the pros last season before deciding to return to school.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, Carson will take the leap after his sophomore season.

"I know it will be his last; We know Jahii will end up going to the NBA," Arizona State coach Herb Sendek said during the Sun Devils' media day Thursday. "I've known that for a long time."

    Zach Peters returns to practice

Arizona big man Zach Peters practiced with the Wildcats after being cleared on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Peters was cleared by the NCAA on Sept. 26 but needed to be cleared by the school after suffering multiple concussions while at Kansas a year ago. Sources told ESPN that Peters was cleared by medical personnel earlier this week.
