Soul Get Back to Winning Ways in Chicago, 72-41

    The Philadelphia Soul (3-3) got complete game and production from all three phases - offense, defense and special teams - on their way to a 72-41 victory over the Chicago Rush (4-3) in front of 4,722 fans at the Allstate Arena on Saturday night.

    "We scored every time on offense, got turnovers on defense and played well on special teams," said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. "When you get that kind of production, you will usually win games. It is a reflection of a great couple weeks of practice and exactly what the doctor ordered for our overall confidence."

    Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game, Tiger Jones led Soul receivers with 13 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, while J Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game, Ryan McDaniel added six receptions for 67 yards and four touchdowns. Andrae Thurman contributed with four receptions for 28 yards, while Larry Brackins added two catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.

    Soul QB Dan Raudabaugh guided the Philadelphia offense and finished by connecting on 22-of-34 passes for 240 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.

    The ground game was spearheaded by Derrick Ross, who finished with 44 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

    Defensively, Riddell Defensive Player of the Game, LaRico Stevenson, who had 4.0 total tackles, an interception, three pass break-ups. James Romain led Soul tacklers with 5.0 total tackles and a pass break-up, while Rayshaun Kizer added an interception and a tackle. Bryan Robinson, Dustin Barno and Brandon Perkins each had sacks in the victory.

    Chicago quarterback Carson Coffman connected on 14-of-22 passes for 174 yards and five touchdowns and two interceptions. Jared Jenkins led Rush receivers with eight receptions for 121 yards and four touchdowns, while Reggie Gray added seven catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

    The Soul took the opening drive 39 yards on six plays and was capped with a 16-yard scoring strike from Raudabaugh to McDaniel and a 7-0 lead. The following kickoff by Carlos Martinez hit off the metal upright and the loose ball was recovered by LaRico Stevenson, which resulted in a Ross 10-yard touchdown run and a 14-0 lead. The Rush got on the scoreboard when Coffman found Gray on an 18-yard touchdown. The two teams traded scored and ended the first quarter with Philadelphia leading 21-14.

    The Soul offense continued to keep the pace up when Raudabaugh found Jones on an 8-yard touchdown for a 28-14 lead to start the second quarter. Chicago's Jared Jenkins hauled in his second touchdown of the game to narrow the lead to 28-21, before the Rush defense held the Soul to a 28-yard field goal. The Soul defense came up with a fourth down stop on the next Rush drive and capitalized with a McDaniel 2-yard touchdown reception to close out the first half with the Soul on top, 38-21.

    Soul maintained the lead in the third quarter with touchdowns from Jones and Brackins, while Chicago got a pair of scores from Jenkins to end the third quarter with Philadelphia leading, 52-34.

    Philadelphia closed out the fourth quarter by outscoring Chicago 20-7 in the final stanza. Consecutive touchdowns by Ross, McDaniel and Jones sealed the deal and gave the Soul a 72-41 victory.

    The Soul return home to play the East Division rival Pittsburgh Power on Saturday, May 11 at 7:05 p.m. ET at the Wells Fargo Center. The game can be seen on The Comcast Network with Lou Tilley and Tom Goodhines calling the action.
