Barnstormers Roll over VooDoo 62-16

    The Iowa Barnstormers played their most complete all-around game of the season, in route to an impressive 62-16 victory over the New Orleans Voodoo at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. With the victory, the Barnstormers improve to 4-4 on the season, while the Voodoo falls to 1-6.

    Iowa jumped out to an early lead as QB J.J. Raterink connected with TE Michael Garrity for an 15 yard touchdown. On the ensuing drive, the Barnstormers defense came up big, forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by DL Rodney Gnat, giving Iowa a 14-0 lead. After the Voodoo cut the lead to 14-7, Iowa responded with 21 straight points to close the first half with a 35-7 lead.

    The second half was more of the same as the Barnstormers offense capitalized on every opportunity. Iowa's defensive unit forced 5 turnovers on the night while also making multiple stops on downs. After the Voodoo narrowed the score to 42-14, the Barnstormers responded with3 straight touchdown drives to close out the game, making the final score 62-16.Raterink finished the night 12 of 20 for 111 yards and 4 touchdowns. Backup Brian Reader saw his first action of the season and finished 5 of 7 for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Jesse Schmidt turned in a 3 touchdown performance for the second straight week.

    Next up for the Barnstormers is a two game road trip that begins next Saturday, May 18 in Utah. Iowa's next home game is set for Saturday, June 1 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
