    New York City Football Club
    [IMG]
Partnership of Two of the Biggest Names in Sports,
Manchester City and New York Yankees; Club Expects to Begin Play in 2015

NEW YORK (May 21, 2013) - Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced today that a partnership of global sports powers, Manchester City Football Club and the New York Yankees, has acquired the League's 20th expansion club. The new team will be named New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and expects to begin play in 2015.

"We proudly welcome two of the most prestigious professional global sports organizations to Major League Soccer," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber . "This is a transformational development that will elevate the league to new heights in this country. The New York area is home to more than 19 million people, and we look forward to an intense crosstown rivalry between New York City Football Club and the New York Red Bulls that will captivate this great city."

"New York is a legendary sports town, as well as a thriving global city with a rapidly expanding soccer fan-base," said Ferran Soriano, CEO of Manchester City Football Club , who will oversee the process of filling top New York City FC leadership positions in the weeks to come. "We are thrilled to contribute to the energy and growth of New York City Soccer. In the Yankees, we have found the absolute best partner for developing a world-class sports organization and a winning team that will carry the New York City Football Club name with pride."

Manchester City will be the majority owner of the new Club. As an investor, the Yankees will be an active member of the ownership group. The New York Yankees and Manchester City Football Club have an existing commercial relationship through Legends Hospitality, LLC, an international entertainment, hospitality and marketing organization. Yankee Stadium is pleased to be hosting Manchester City on Saturday, May 25 for a "friendly" match against Chelsea FC, giving New York area fans a rare opportunity to see two outstanding English Premier League clubs up close.

Red Bulls react to NYC FC rivalry
    [IMG]

“We’re supportive of MLS expansion, as it illustrates the growing interest of soccer in North America. We also want to congratulate MLS and the League’s new ownership group, which is injecting additional resources to help develop our sport across the country. Today’s announcement is one of many steps in the exciting and challenging process of building a competitive MLS club,’’ Red Bulls GM Jérôme de Bontin said in a statement.

“Our club’s energy is focused on winning a championship for the League’s most loyal and passionate fans, many of whom have steadfastly backed this organization and MLS since its inception and come from all over the tri-state area. We are committed to continue to build an organization that is the flagship club for Major League Soccer around the world and a club that soccer fans across the region can be proud to support.”

MLS officials discuss NYC expansion plans,
    eye on 2016

NEW YORK — For the first time since identifying Flushing Meadows-Corona Park as a potential stadium site for the league's 20th expansion team, MLS officials are now openly discussing details of the project with local residents and media.

The latest installment of those grassroots meetings involved a Wednesday roundtable with local Hispanic media at the league headquarters in midtown Manhattan, where league president Mark Abbott answered questions about the plans.

It's a project that's been in the works since August 2011, when the league first put a team together to investigate more than 20 different locations for a stadium site in New York City.

Earlier this year, that search honed in on Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, which has the available land and is also close to public transportation, including both the NYC Subway and the Long Island Railroad.

But as importantly, it is the "home of soccer in New York City right now," according to Abbott.
The plans call for a 25,000-seat stadium (expandable to 35,000 seats) to be constructed on the current site of the park's Industry Pond, a 6.5-acre cement structure that was built for the 1966 World Fair but that is no longer operational (at ight).

The economics are straightforward: The stadium will be entirely funded by the club's owner and it will create an estimated 2,200 construction jobs, 160 full-time jobs and 750 part-time gameday jobs.

New York City FC name Claudio Reyna director of football operations
    [IMG]

New York City FC have their first employee.

The Major League Soccer expansion club named former US national team star Claudio Reyna as its director of football operations on Wednesday, one day after it was unveiled as the league’s 20th club, set to debut in 2015. The club will be co-owned by English Premier League power Manchester City and the New York Yankees.

Reyna, 39, has strong ties to both MLS and Manchester City, and is one of the most decorated figures in American soccer history. He spent four seasons playing for Manchester City from 2003-07 before returning to MLS, where he joined the New York Red Bulls as the franchise’s first Designated Player. He appeared in 29 matches for the club before injuries forced him to retire midway through the 2008 season.

New York City FC owners have long-term goal
of building team core from academy

NEW YORK — With Manchester City as the majority owners of new MLS expansion side New York City FC, many fans are already fantasizing about the star power that could make its way to the Big Apple when the team kicks off in 2015.

But NYCFC's owners have a greater vision for their club than merely signing big names. In fact, the philosophy sounds more akin to academy-oriented Barcelona than free-spending English giants Manchester City.

"Our intention is to work with kids from a really young age and, in the future, beginning at the age of five years old," Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano told ESPN Deportes Radio's Jorge Ramos y Su Banda. "And we want these kids to be from New York and to learn with us how to play soccer, but first to love soccer.

    Borough battle:
Bronx president ready to compete with Queens
    for NYCFC stadium

Even after the May announcement of Major League Soccer's 20th team, New York City FC, nearly two years remain before the expansion club begins play in MLS. For now, the club's plans for a home stadium, which are still undetermined, continue to be the biggest talking point.

We already know that NYCFC will play at a temporary home in the New York area for "two years, maybe three" when they join the league in 2015. Now we also know that there's legitimate competition and lobbying within the city to land what is expected to be a $340 million soccer stadium, funded by NYCFC's owners.

Before unveiling NYCFC, the MLS league office spent several months working with local officials on a stadium proposal for Flushing Meadows Corona Park area. But NYCFC's owners, which include baseball's New York Yankees, are now in charge of the stadium search and the newest development comes in the form of an open letter, drafted by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to MLS Commissioner Don Garber, in which Diaz states his desire to bring the world's game to his borough.

    Sketches of NYCFC’s stadium leaked
    [IMG]

New York City FC is set to begin play in the 2015 MLS season, and it looks like their home games will be played in one of the coolest venues in all of soccer.

Sketches of the new stadium have leaked on the internet, and they have probably put their future rivals to shame. Located on Pier 40, the open ended stadium would offer a view of the lower Manhattan skyline, including the One World Trade Center building. How cool is that?
NYC FC, the joint venture of Manchester City and the New York Yankees, are certainly off to a good start in competing with the two other local teams, the Red Bulls and the Cosmos, for the city’s attention. There is however, just one little drawback: the stadium would only hold around 25,000 people, and we’re guessing tickets won’t come cheap. But hey, if there’s one thing the city loves, it’s exclusivity right?

    New York City FC:
How Will the Club's Entrance into MLS Realign the Conferences?

Houston should therefore be the Western Conference addition. On the one hand, it will be great to return to our old conference and play Dallas three times a year; but when the Dynamo go to the west coast, which will be fairly often, the games always start late here, at 9pm or 10pm. When they travel east, the game usually starts no later than 6:30pm.

New York City FC, the newest MLS expansion team, has hired former Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti as the club's chief business officer, a source close to the team confirmed to ESPN's Alexi Lalas.

Bloomberg News earlier reported the hiring Friday. NYC FC will announce the move next week, a person with direct knowledge of the hiring told Bloomberg.

MLS in May unveiled the expansion club, which is controlled by the owners of Manchester City in a partnership with baseball's New York Yankees. The club plans to begin play in 2015 but has yet to decide on a stadium site.

New York City FC hoping to make Jason Kreis the team's first head coach
    [IMG]

Could Jason Kreis be the man to lead New York City FC in the club's MLS debut?

That's their hope, according to a report posted on SI.com on Thursday afternoon.

Kreis, who has been at the helm of Real Salt Lake since 2007 is in the last year of his contract with the club and has yet to put pen to paper on a renewal.

According to the report, NYCFC extended an offer to Kreis earlier this week and received permission from RSL to speak to the coach, who flew to England earlier this month to speak to NYCFC and Manchester City leadership.

RSL, however, reportedly remain intent on keeping Kreis, who has overseen an extended run of success that includes an MLS Cup 2009 win and a run to the final of the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League.

    That construction looks sick.

Definitely will have to take a trip to the city when this is ready. Hopefully the tickets aren't too pricey but since it's NYC, better start saving now haha.

The New York City Football Club announced today that beginning in 2015, games will be broadcast on WFAN 660 AM/ 101.9 FM, the first and most listened to sportsradio station in the nation. This multi-year partnership furthers the team’s mission to bring the love of football to as many residents of New York as possible.

WFAN is owned by CBS RADIO, and will be the first radio provider to broadcast Major League Soccer (MLS) in English in New York City.

Top of the line NYCFC crest, kit and concept design by designer Mike Retrum

Would you like to see an awesome, newly released club crest and kit design for recently announced 20th Major League Soccer team, New York City FC?

We've solicited some ideas from readers in the past regarding what the club's "look" and design identity should be, and that was a lively discussion. We also highlighted an ongoing design contest and some of the great work being done there, a little while back.

And then came along one of the best concept designs as a whole — colors, crest, three kits, goalkeepers kit and some scarves — to date. Twenty-nine-year-old California designer Mike Retrum came up with the following crest and primary kit designs. To see the rest of his entire concept, you'll have to visit his website. http://slopremierleague.com/nycfc/

Jason Kreis steps down as head coach of Real Salt Lake,
will take top job at New York City FC

Jason Kreis’ tenure at Real Salt Lake officially ended on Tuesday night, when he invited each of his players to his home for dinner and frank conversation about the future.

Kreis, the 40-year-old rising star of the Major League Soccer coaching ranks who lifted RSL from the expansion doldrums to a league power, has officially stepped down from his position with RSL, and will accept the head coaching position at New York City FC, the 2015 MLS expansion franchise backed by EPL powerhouse Manchester City.

Bronx soccer stadium deal near Yankee Stadium offers big incentives to Arab firm
    [IMG]

Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio will have 30 days after inauguration to ink a deal that would allow a stadium for the New York City Football Club to be built on city land — that would be rent-free for decades.

Will it be a last-minute gooooal in the Bronx for the Yankees and their Middle East sheik soccer partner?

City officials are scampering to sign a deal by the end of this month for $300 million in tax-free bonds that would allow the Yankees and a royal from the United Arab Emirates to tear down one of the bankrupt Yankee Stadium garages and build a Major League Soccer stadium, two sources close to the talks have told the Daily News.

New York City FC's new boss Jason Kreis excited for opportunity to "refresh," build club into winner
    [IMG]

NEW YORK – Perhaps only Jason Kreis would consider the next year – six months spent in Manchester and six in New York City – a break.

After all, he’s got a world-class coaching staff to shadow, an MLS-ready squad to piece together and a club to build, essentially, from scratch. Not to mention the unenviable logistics of dragging his wife and school-aged sons around the world to do so.

“It’s going to be a whirlwind,” Kreis said, an understatement if there ever was one.

But, as he reiterated on Friday after being introduced as New York City FC’s first-ever head coach, the decision to leave the comfortable confines at Real Salt Lake was all about opportunity. And there will certainly be no shortage of that with the considerable resources of Manchester City backing his efforts at every turn.

New York City FC "quite certain" to sign three Designated Players
    [IMG]

NEW YORK – With a veritable army of scouts at their disposal – and a budget unlikely to be exceeded in MLS – the quest to introduce New York City FC in 2015 as a winning side has begun in earnest.

No, there are no signings to speak of – unlike the other 2015 expansion side, Orlando City FC, who announced their first MLS player on Friday – but efforts are well under way to put together the squad that head coach Jason Kreis will field a little more than 12 months from now.

“The clock is ticking and we’re looking now,” director of soccer Claudio Reyna told reporters on Friday at Kreis' official unveiling. “We have 36 scouts within City Football Group and we started to speak with them last year already, started to make contact with them. Remember, we need to find Designated Players, but we need to find other players as well.”

To be more specific, NYCFC will need to identify and sign three DPs if, as expected, they fill each of their allotted slots. Just don’t expect them to take chances on high-risk players from a character perspective.

“I’m quite certain that New York City FC will sign three Designated Players,” Kreis said. “I’m also quite certain that those players will be extremely well vetted, researched, talked to [in order to] make sure they’re not only the right player for this team but the right person.”

Manchester City target Barcelona midfielder Xavi as New York City FC's marquee signing
    [IMG]

City plan big things for their MLS franchise and believe Xavi would confirm their intention
New York City will not play in the MLS until 2015, by which time Xavi will be aged 35 and will have one year remaining on his Barcelona contract.

Having spent his entire career at Barca, Xavi has spoken of retiring at the Nou Camp but last week suggested that he could see out his playing days elsewhere by saying: “Being tied to Barcelona is a privilege, but I don’t know what will happen in the future.”

That sparked speculation in Spain and America that former Barcelona striker Thierry Henry is trying to entice Xavi to join him at New York Red Bulls.
s to play the Barcelona way.
