Buffalo Bulls continue to push a
    New York State of mind

The University at Buffalo has been re-branding everything this summer. The school is not officially changing anything but the Athletics Department, under the guidance of new director Danny White, is doing everything he can within the confines of the State University system.

First it was the basketball court and now it seems the football jerseys are getting a subtle upgrade. The change is in the form of a new patch above the numbers clearly accentuates NEW YORK, which is different from previous jerseys that just said BUFFALO.

No. 23 N. Illinois holds off Akron, ups home win streak to 23

Despite struggling on offense, Northern Illinois still found a way to win.

The 23rd-ranked Huskies used their defense and kicking game to beat Akron 27-20 on Saturday night after the offense went 1 for 15 on third-down conversions.

    Demarius Reed death called homicide

Demarius Reed played prep football at Chicago's Simeon Academy, carefully avoiding any run-ins with the gangs on the city's South Side.

He left his hometown to play ball at Eastern Michigan, where he was a Communication, Media and Theater arts major. But the 20-year-old receiver dreamed of playing professional football before he was found shot to death Friday in what police believe was a robbery.

Joe L. Reed said he found irony in the tragedy of his grandson's slaying: Demarius was able to survive the dangerous streets of Chicago only to become a victim in an off-campus apartment building in the perceived safety of a university community.

Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch always is a rushing threat, though he never had a day like this.

Lynch rushed for 316 yards, an FBS record for a quarterback, and the 23rd-ranked Huskies stayed unbeaten with a 38-17 victory at Central Michigan on Saturday.

No. 18 Northern Illinois reaches 8-0 for best start

Jordan Lynch had asked for three years to try the play.

On Saturday, the quarterback for No. 18 Northern Illinois got his wish, reversing roles with wideout Tommylee Lewis on a 17-yard touchdown in the second quarter as the Huskies rolled to a 59-20 victory over Eastern Michigan.

Jordan Lynch runs for 4 TDs as No. 17 Northern Illinois remains unbeaten

Jordan Lynch dropped back to pass, and then it became obvious that keeping the ball would be the better way to go.

The Northern Illinois quarterback ran untouched up the middle for a 19-yard score for his third touchdown run in the first quarter, leading No. 17 Northern Illinois to a 63-19 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday. Lynch also scrambled for a third-quarter score, rushing for 119 yards and four TDs in all.

Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois push past Ball State, stay undefeated

Northern Illinois coach Rod Carey thinks Huskies quarterback Jordan Lynch deserves to be mentioned in Heisman Trophy talk.

"If Jordan isn't in the conversation for the Heisman, I don't know what people are watching; they were asleep," Carey said. "In my estimation that trophy goes to the best player in the nation, and with the performance he had tonight, he dang sure should be in that conversation."

Playing in front of a national television audience, Lynch threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores to help No. 15 Northern Illinois beat Ball State 48-27 on Wednesday night.

Jordan Lynch powers No. 16 Northern Illinois over Toledo

Backed up against the end zone on third down, Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch had the defense right where he wanted.

He dropped back, waited until he spotted an opening and scrambled up the middle for a first down that sparked a 99-yard drive, clinching a 35-17 victory over Toledo on Wednesday night.

Jordan Lynch breaks own mark as NIU finishes perfect regular season

P.J. Fleck helped recruit quarterback Jordan Lynch to Northern Illinois, so the first-year Western Michigan coach had a good idea what the Broncos could expect Tuesday.

No amount of preparation, however, could counter what the Huskies senior delivered on a wintery night.

Lynch broke his single-game Football Bowl Subdivision rushing record for quarterbacks with 321 yards, and No. 14 Northern Illinois completed its first unbeaten regular season in 50 years with a 33-14 victory over Western Michigan.

Mid-American Conference inks historic TV deal
    [IMG]

With Fox Sports 1, CBS Sports Network and NBCSN looking for live sports programming, the Mid-American Conference could have tested the market with their television rights package..

Instead, the MAC decided the best move was to stay with ESPN. With three years left on its deal, the conference announced Tuesday a 10-year extension with ESPN through the 2026-27 academic year.

It is the largest and most extensive agreement in the 68-year history of the conference. It also adds provisions to the remaining three years of the existing agreement.
