Buffs QB Webb, outgoing OL arrested

Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb and former offensive lineman Alex Lewis were arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree assault.

Lewis, who announced Friday that he was leaving Colorado and transferring to Nebraska, was also charged with two counts of harassment.

The Denver Post first reported the news Sunday morning.

New Buffaloes coach Mike MacIntyre, who replaced Jon Embree after he was fired following a 1-11 season, issued a statement regarding both players.

"Jordan's exact involvement in this incident is still being investigated," MacIntyre said. "We continually stress the importance of appropriate behavior to our players and do not tolerate any detrimental conduct in our football program. Once all of the facts come to light, if Jordan is found responsible for any misconduct, he will be disciplined according to team rules."

Webb, who started the bulk of the games in 2012, suffered a torn ACL in spring but had hoped to return at some point in the 2013 season.

    Jordan Webb, Alex Lewis charged

Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb and former Buffaloes offensive lineman Alex Lewis were both charged with second-degree assault on Wednesday after prosecutors alleged they knocked a man unconscious in a weekend brawl.

Lewis, who announced Friday that he plans to transfer to Nebraska, also was charged with two counts of misdemeanor harassment.

Police say 22-year-old Lee Bussey was knocked unconscious during a fight with Lewis and Webb near the university that started after Lewis bumped into Bussey at 3 a.m. Saturday. Bussey was disoriented and bleeding from his head when they found him seated, leaning against a garbage bin in an alley, according to a police report.

Lewis' attorney, Donald Brenner, initially said Bussey accosted Lewis, possibly because Lewis was wearing Cornhuskers attire, but now says Lewis wasn't wearing any Nebraska gear. He said Lewis' status with Nebraska is up in the air and will depend on the outcome of the court case.

Lewis and Webb each faced the judge separately during the hearing.

stAte gets 1.3M to play at Southern Cal in 2015
    [IMG][IMG]

JONESBORO, Ark. (6/26/13) – Arkansas State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir announced Wednesday a one-game contract has been signed that will send the Red Wolves’ football team to Los Angeles, Calif., in 2015 to play Pac-12 member USC for the first time in school history.

A-State will face the Trojans on Sept. 5 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, giving the Red Wolves two announced non-conference opponents on their 2015 schedule. ASU is also slated to host SEC foe Missouri on Sept. 12, 2015, in the second game of a home-and-home series in Jonesboro.

“With its outstanding tradition and history of success, we are excited to add a program the caliber of USC to our 2015 football schedule,” said Mohajir. “This will be a great opportunity for our program to be displayed in one of the largest media markets in the world. USC is very selective with their scheduling, so to be able to secure a game with them for the first time in our history is a great testament to our players, coaches and overall program.”

    Re: THE PACIFIC TEN CONFERENCE

The Coliseum's landlord, the California Science Center board, approves basic terms of a 98-year lease that lets USC take over parking for major events.

A state board approved a sharply debated deal Tuesday that grants USC control of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and nearly all of the revenues from the taxpayer-owned stadium for the next century.

The governing board of the California Science Center, the Coliseum's landlord, voted 7 to 0 to adopt the basic terms for the lease agreement that extends to the private university most of the benefits of owning the historic venue without requiring the school to buy it.

The school's compliance office investigated the autographs, decided Lee did not receive payment, and cleared him of any wrongdoing.

Lane Kiffin doesn't pick starting QB

Quarterbacks Max Wittek and Cody Kessler both will play for No. 24 Southern California in its season opener next week.

Coach Lane Kiffin said Saturday that he couldn't pick a starting quarterback after a full offseason of evaluation, so both sophomores will get snaps Thursday at Hawaii.

No. 24 USC's defense dominates in opening win over Hawaii

Justin Davis ran for 74 yards and a touchdown, and No. 24 USC's defense picked up for a shaky offense, masking Kessler's and Wittek's mixed performances in a 30-13 win over Hawaii.

    Austin Seferian-Jenkins out

Washington Huskies tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is suspended for Saturday night's game against No. 19 Boise State because of his legal issues during the offseason, The Seattle Times reported.

Washington hands Boise St. worst loss under Chris Petersen

Keith Price was back throwing touchdowns with a grin on his face, Washington returned to the shores of Lake Washington and Husky Stadium was drowning in a cacophony of noise.

The Huskies' response to one of their most anticipated season openers in recent memory was an emphatic and impressive statement.

Price threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes to become the school's all-time leader, and Washington returned to renovated Husky Stadium with a stunning 38-6 blowout of No. 19 Boise State on Saturday, the worst loss in Chris Petersen's tenure as the Broncos head coach.

UCLA springs for 41 points in second half to paste Nevada

Even after his remarkable freshman season, Brett Hundley had a few first-game jitters when he returned to the Rose Bowl.

The smooth sophomore quarterback shook them off after halftime, and a blocked punt moments later sent the Bruins rolling to another big win.

Hundley passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores, leading No. 21 UCLA's second-half surge to a 58-20 victory over Nevada on Saturday night.

Sun Devils roll over Sac State 55-0 in opener

The schedule about to get a whole lot tougher, the last thing Arizona State wanted in its opening game was to play poorly or, worse yet, lose to a lower-division opponent.

The Sun Devils put away any concern about a letdown by racing out to a big lead and coasting to the finish.

Taylor Kelly threw for 300 yards and matched a career high with five touchdown passes before sitting out most of the second half, helping Arizona State open its second season

Jordan Webb gets two years' probation

University of Colorado backup quarterback Jordan Webb was sentenced on Friday to two years of probation for a May fight that left an Air Force Academy cadet unconscious.

The 22-year-old also was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and get alcohol treatment, The Daily Camera (http://bit.ly/1ap3rZd) reported.

He pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, last week in exchange for prosecutors dropping felony assault charges.

Tyler Gaffney, No. 5 Stanford impose will against San Jose St.

So much for any rust for Tyler Gaffney in his return to football. So much for any Rose Bowl hangover from the defending Pac-12 champions.

Unlike a year ago, Stanford sure looked ready in its season opener.

Gaffney ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns in his first game back after playing baseball in the minors last year, leading the fifth-ranked Cardinal past gritty San Jose State 34-13 on Saturday night.

Washington St. gets rare win at the Coliseum; USC's Lane Kiffin booed

Mike Leach couldn't stand in the Coliseum tunnel and pretend everything went according to plan for Washington State in a messy, clunky game dominated by both defenses.

With a few dozen boisterous players celebrating in the locker room behind him, this win still felt like one big breakthrough for the maverick coach and his Cougars.

Andrew Furney kicked a 41-yard field goal with 3:03 to play, and Washington State beat No. 25 Southern California 10-7 Saturday night for its first victory at the Coliseum in 13 years.
