Buffalo Bulls continue to push a
    New York State of mind

The University at Buffalo has been re-branding everything this summer. The school is not officially changing anything but the Athletics Department, under the guidance of new director Danny White, is doing everything he can within the confines of the State University system.

First it was the basketball court and now it seems the football jerseys are getting a subtle upgrade. The change is in the form of a new patch above the numbers clearly accentuates NEW YORK, which is different from previous jerseys that just said BUFFALO.

    Manhattan keeps Steve Masiello

Manhattan has decided to retain coach Steve Masiello and will reinstate him once he completes his undergraduate degree, the school announced Monday.

Masiello will be placed on unpaid leave until he completes his undergraduate degree at Kentucky, Manhattan said in a statement. Associate head coach Matt Grady will serve as interim head coach during Masiello's absence.

"I am extremely grateful and humbled by the opportunity to continue as the head men's basketball coach at Manhattan College," Masiello said in the statement. "I made a mistake that could have cost me my job at an institution I love. Details matter.

"Manhattan College has shown me a great deal of compassion and trust during this process, and I will do everything in my power to uphold that trust. I understand that I am very fortunate to have the chance to remain here at Manhattan."

MAC, ESPN agree to new deal

The Mid-American Conference and ESPN have agreed to a new 13-year media rights deal through 2026-27, an industry source told ESPN.

The new deal between the MAC and ESPN rewrites the current eight-year deal, which was set to expire in 2017. A source said the new deal is worth more than the old deal, which paid the MAC about a $1 million a year.

No Bull: Buffalo pulls off big upset, knocks off Arizona

Inside Buffalo's locker room hung a handwritten sign with two words: Ball Pressure.

Coach Nate Oats knew the Bulls had a shot at beating big, bad Arizona, but only if they could put lots of pressure on Arizona's guards and make them shoot from the perimeter.

    It worked to perfection.

    Call them the bracket-busting Bulls.

Pushing the pace and hounding Arizona into submission, 13th-seeded Buffalo pulled off the NCAA Tournament's biggest upset of the opening round, rolling to an 89-68 victory over the fourth-seeded Wildcats in the South Region on Thursday night.

Massinburg returns to lead No. 22 Buffalo over Marist 76-49

As quick to shoot as any team in the country, Buffalo takes pride in its willingness to put in extra time on defense.

"We are built on defense here," coach Nate Oats said. "We are built on toughness."

No. 17 Buffalo rolls past Division II Le Moyne 89-55

    - In wins over Arizona in last year's NCAA Tournament and at West Virginia earlier this season, Buffalo learned what it takes to pull off an upset.

It also learned how to avoid the losing side of one.

"I think it gives us an advantage," Bulls guard CJ Massinburg said, "because we know the recipe for disaster."

Massinburg had 13 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals, and No. 17 Buffalo used a big second-half run to beat Division II Le Moyne 89-55 on Wednesday night.

No. 17 Buffalo improves to 9-0; Beats St. Bonaventure 80-62

After spending time back home consoling his mother, Buffalo guard Jayvon Graves paid tribute to his late grandfather the best way he knew how.

Graves hit a career-best five 3-pointers and scored 19 points in helping the No. 17 Bulls remain undefeated with an 80-62 win at St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

No. 21 Buffalo improves to 12-1 with 87-72 win over Canisius

    - Buffalo had a week off to brood over its first loss of the season.

"You get home and I feel like Markus Howard ruined our Christmas," Buffalo's CJ Massinburg said in reference to the Marquette guard who scored 45 points in the Golden Eagles' 103-85 win over the Bulls on Dec. 21. "Family members: `Hey, it's good to see you. How you let him light you up like that?' That's the next thing their saying."

No. 20 Buffalo rolls in MAC opener, 74-58 over EMU

Nick Perkins has a good idea of how the rest of the Mid-American Conference feels about facing Buffalo this season.

"When you've got a national ranking, everybody wants to beat you," the 6-foot-8 senior said.

The 20th-ranked Bulls were ready for their first MAC test of 2018-19. Montell McRae scored a career-high 18 points and Perkins added 15 to lift Buffalo to an easy 74-58 win over Eastern Michigan on Friday night.
