Any idea how much we'll have? Summer of '14 has some nice free agents!

I don't think we'll have any. Except for Watson and Barton nobodies contract expires and most have small raises. Summer of 2015 is when we could have cap space.

Non-tax payer MLE will be what $5.5+ million? So we'll have that, and since we aren't a taxpayer can also receive signed players in sign and trades.

Unless we make a deal, all of our money becomes available in 15'

We are better off not getting our hopes up. Who can we get with the MLE?

With the new cba, we could get a quality player actually. There were some decent role players that were picked up for less than that.

Besides an Aldridge trade our big summer is 2015 when Wes and LMA and Lopez contracts expire (and a few others) - that's when we will have a lot of capspace and big changes could occur.

I hope there is a free for all next summer and most teams burn up all their cap space. Then summer 2015, Blazers may be one of the few teams with major cap space

Yes I was actually impressed with some of the guys left for the MLE after the overpriced free agents were signed. Kirilenko even took the mini-MLE, Mo Williams would probably take the full MLE. It could actually help a team negotiate a more favorable contract because a player who is worth $8 million a year might settle with the Blazers for less if he thinks we are a good option. We could say “hey we’re giving you every last dollar we can!”

Unfortunately I just don’t think that is ever going to be the case any more in the NBA. Contracts are only 4 years max so every offseason there will be more and more teams with free agency money available from short term deals expiring. I suppose we could hope the Lakers and a few other big markets blow their cap space next summer in which case the Blazers might be as attractive a destination as any team out there in 2015.

I'm curious if we could use the cap space to grab a marquee player, then resign our existing bird contracts? Is that even possible? It would take some wink wink agreements.

Yep. It seems the stupid teams paid the overpriced amounts, while the smart teams got good talent for cheap.

A max contract doesn't seem out of reach for Dame, so we can expect at least one big contract on the books.

Dame will be on his rookie contract until 2016 though, so we could potentially get a free agent in summer of 2015 before his raise counts against the cap.

To expand on what Draco said, you can over over the cap to re-sign your own guys, but you still have to have enough cap room in the first place for the cap hold and the incoming FA
