If they did the Top 50 over today, who would be bumped off and replaced with? Plane is about to take off....... Didn't have a chance to post list of the 50...... If somebody could help find it.....ah shit, gotta go! Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Tiny Archibald Paul Arizin Charles Barkley Rick Barry Elgin Baylor Dave Bing Larry Bird Wilt Chamberlain Bob Cousy Dave Cowens Billy Cunningham Dave DeBusschere Clyde Drexler Julius Erving Patrick Ewing Walt Frazier George Gervin Hal Greer John Havlicek Elvin Hayes Magic Johnson Sam Jones Michael Jordan Jerry Lucas Karl Malone Moses Malone Pete Maravich Kevin McHale George Mikan Earl Monroe Shaquille ONeal Hakeem Olajuwon Robert Parish Bob Pettit Scottie Pippen Willis Reed Oscar Robertson David Robinson Bill Russell Dolph Schayes Bill Sharman John Stockton Isiah Thomas Nate Thurmond Wes Unseld Bill Walton Jerry West Lenny Wilkens James Worthy
assuming Lebron, Kobe, and Duncan would be added just off the top of my head would KG bump someone off? Gary Payton? Reggie Miller?
Eras are so different and they are all so good. I don't think you can bump anyone (without a big argument) but some should be added.
The funny thing is, half those guys probably wouldn't be able to do shit in the league today. Athletes have changed so much in the last fifty years. Some of the players would still be great (Wilt, Dr J, Maravich) but I think some of them would fall by the wayside. Someone like Kobe would have dominated in the 60s and 70s. Of course, I think he would also have cried like a bitch when someone like Mo Lucas punched him in the mouth and was only fined $25.
Players who were top-5 in the 50s would be at least above-average starters today. Stars of the 60s would be stars today, though short. Especially Worthy, who was just a Laker, nothing more. Tom Chambers was a lot better. Aldridge is between those two.
Probably not. He puts up massive stats and has multiple rings. If he retired now, he'd be in the Top 50 (though maybe not Top 5)....
I don't like this top 50 list and I think it's unfair. I would much rather do a top 30 list for positions...Guards, Forwards and Centers.. That would make it much for fair than just combining all the players into the top 50 slots. Or you could do guards. small forwards then power forward\centers.
A.I. In his prime would light up almost every one of those guards for 40........ Sent from my baller ass iPad FAMS!
It is hard enough to compare players who didn't play against each other. A list like this forces you to try to compare players who played in different eras. How do you compare a SuperStar from the Celtics era who was great, but never won thanks to the dominance of the Celtics vs a SuperStar from the Jordan era who was great, but never won thanks to the GOAT standing in their way? So many guys had amazing stats, and the separator is supposed to be leading your team to a ring. But if Bill Russell or Jordan were in front of you should they be penalized? If you were the 2nd best player on a team that won multiple rings, do you get credit for that or get penalized? I think the list should be split up at this point: the 40 greatest players until the Bird/Magic era - 50's, 60's & 70's. Then a new 40 greatest list of the modern era.
You could sort the list by height, position, or decade. The 60s (radicals), 70s (hippies), 80s (Reagan lovers), 90s (Newt lovers), 00s (warmongers), and 10s (defeatists).
No way!! Pippen took the Bulls further without Jordan than Jordan did without Pippen and your going to push Pippen off the list?
Well Pippen proved that he could put a team on his back and carry them better than Jordan could. That's my beef that I have when people that talk about Jordan being so much better than Pippen.
I don't see it, personally... while I do think a lot of Robins get pushed off as new Batmans come in, Pippen is pretty much the best Robin of all time.
