I think one of the records in sports that will NEVER be broken is Wilt's 50.4 pts a game average for one season.

Interesting how some like the NFL's single season rushing record seems very obtainable (2,105.....shit Peterson missed it by 8 yards last year)

    A-ROD is like 100 HRs away from Bond's 762.

But nobody has come within 13 pts of Wilt since I think MJ averaged 37 like 25 years ago. Is there a more UNOBTAINABLE record in sports out there?

That and Bostons 8 straight titles, and the Lakers 33 (?) straight wins.

I think Chicagos record is safe too.

I think 81 is pretty untouchable. KD and Bron could possibly do it, but neither has the need to jack up 46 shots in a game.

Wayne Gretzky's career point total... He has 2,857. To put this into context number 2 on the list is Mark Messier with 1,887, and the active player with the most points is Jaromir Jagr with 1,688 and he is 41 years old.

Most games played in an NBA season?

    88 games, by Walt Bellamy.

One has to wonder, did he let his love flow? And if I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

During the strike year of...94? Tony Gwynn batted something like .396 or something.

    Correction, .394

How about Robertson's triple double total of 181 times in 14 years!!!

The only active player in the top 10 is LeBron at #7...... he's only got 30 in 9 seasons!

These two baseball stats are pretty tough to repeat, but probably more doable than Wilt's record.

Fernando Tatis hitting 2 grand slams in the same inning -- pretty tough...

Johnny Vander Meer only pitcher to throw consecutive no hitters.

    That's not a record FAMS.

Williams was the last one to top .400, but there were several others before him. Even if you ignore all the guys who did it back in the 1880s and 1890s and just stick with the modern post-1900 era several guys did it, some multiple times, between 1900 and 1941 (the year Williams his .406). The all time record is .440 by Hugh Duffy in 1894. In the post 1900 era, the record is .426 by Napoleon Lajoie in 1901. Rogers Hornsby hit .424 in 1924. Hornsby had an incredible run where he hit over .400 3 out of 4 years between 1922 and 1925.

In more recent times (seasons I actually remember), in addition to Tony Gwynn's .394 in the strike shortened 1994 season, I remember Rod Carew and George Brett flirting with .400 well into August (I think Brett was actually able .400 even in September). Carew ened up at .388 (1977) and Brett at .390 (1980).

Cy Young - 511 career wins. (that would be over twenty 25-win seasons)

In addition to Wilt's 50.4 PPG, his 27.2 RPG will never be touched. The pace of the game is just so much different now. Nobody has averaged over 20 RPG since the 1960s and Rodman's 18.7 in 1991-92 is the highest since the early 1970s.

Even more impressive to me is Magic's career playoff triple-doubles at 30. Tied for second are Larry Bird and Jason Kidd with ... 11.

That's one reason that I'm not as impressed with the Big O's triple-double record. I'm much more impressed with Wilt's 50.4 than any other record in the NBA from that period of time. It's just such an anomaly compared to even his peers at the time.
