Three New England Patriots and two New York Jets players amassed fines totaling more than $72,000 as the result of a sideline melee near the end of their Sept. 12 game in Foxborough, Mass.

The league announced the fines Friday.

Jets guard Willie Colon was fined $34,125 for two violations -- $26,250 for physical contact with a game official and $7,875 for punching a Patriots player, and teammate D'Brickashaw Ferguson was fined $15,000 for punching a Patriot.

Patriots veteran defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, second-year cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and rookie defensive end Michael Buchanan were each fined $7,875 for unnecessary roughness as part of the scuffle, which led to the ejections of two Jets players.

In addition, second-year defensive end Chandler Jones was fined $15,750 for roughing Jets quarterback Geno Smith in the first quarter. Jones was penalized on the play.

Jets center Nick Mangold was not fined for his hit on cornerback Aqib Talib, which sparked the melee. Talib told ESPN on Wednesday that he did not think the low tackle was a dirty hit.

In other fines announced Friday, Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn received a $21,000 penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

That wasn't the only fine from the game. Bucs safety Dashon Goldson was fined $100,000 but had his suspension overturned, and Tampa Bay safety Ahmad Black received a $21,000 fine.
