In the OT there was an out of bounds that was reviewed. During the broadcast Mike B said the refs were looking at Toronto's footage and was going to give the ball to the Raptors and then they saw the Blazers footage and they didn't reverse the call because of it. Call you tell us what was happening in the truck? Seems like you saved us a possession. Do the refs normally look at video from both teams? Since the Raptors and the Blazers were using the same camera feeds did their reply guy crop or edit what the refs saw and you showed them a more complete version of the same shot?
Each teams broadcast have their own cameras . We may share a couple, but the majority are ours. Today we had the ability to record and monitor 6 cameras. Funny thing is, I was having problems with my machines this morning and fired up an extra machine. So midway thru the game I remembered and threw in 2 more cameras. The refs go to the home show first for replays and if they can't find an angle they like, they come to the visit show. That's what happened today. We have the ability to talk to the refs, and that always helps. About 5 years ago we got 2 points back during a game @ Orlando when they have Reddick 3s in what should have been 2s. Gets crazy sometimes!
What do the refs do when you speak to them in Mexican? Do they get confused? Does that hurt the team?
How does this work logistically? You guys carry all your equipment down on the team plane? Or is there an actual "truck" that drives around from place to place?
You are correct sir......it was the last one they and our broadcast audience saw. I had forgot I had it in and had to fly and go get it.
This is pretty much the same kind of truck we were in today. There are a handful of companies that own trucks and they travel them around to wherever there is a sporting event. They will all have the same equipment no matter where in the world. We travel a few cases of equipment on the team plane, but the trucks show up and are pretty much ready for us to get to work.
Nice job! So what are the ethical requirements for your job? If that last camera had clearly showed the ball going off of a Blazer what would happen if you didn't show it to the refs?
the truck companies have tractor trailers.....they park them usually in the loading dock area. Majority of places are inside but a few like Miami, Detroit, Milwaukee are outside.
You'd think that would come into play considering how much we do show plays to the refs. But I could never do that. Respect the game too much. There was a crazy situation down in Eugene a few years ago at a Ducks football game. When Oklahoma came to Autzen to play. Anybody remember the crazy ending on an insides kick. I must have shown the refs that the Ducks TOUCHED the ball before the 10 yard rule or whatever about 30 times form different angles. I was all bummed cause the Ducks would have lost. But after all that they gave it to them anyway and I was completely SHOCKED! Got home and watched them show my slow mo over and over on SportsCenter and still couldn't believe it.
Sly you should get ahold of Jeff Curtin and see about setting something up where some guys could come sit in the studio with us during a broadcast or you come write about it. Put's an entirely different spin on the game.
