    CSA president Victor Montagliani says:
Full Canadian Open Cup "a must," but won't happen by 2015

With the schedule for next year’s Amway Canadian Championship released last week, fans have had a few days to contemplate what the tournament will look like in its new, expanded format.

Of course, that new format just means going from four teams to five, as the Ottawa Fury are set to enter the fray. But while the tournament’s growth has been slow and steady during its six-year existence, could we one day see a Canadian Championship that resembles the US Open Cup, in terms of size and scope?

“Yeah, I think it’s a must,” Canadian Soccer Association president Victor Montagliani told MLSsoccer.com in a recent interview. "I think we need to strive for that."

Midweek Amway Canadian Championship Match Creates History

For the first time in history, two Canadian clubs from the North American Soccer League will meet on the pitch in Wednesday's Amway Canadian Championship.

FC Edmonton travels to NASL expansion club Ottawa Fury FC for the first leg of the seventh annual national competition on Wednesday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. MT / 7:30 p.m. ET, before returning home for the second leg on April 30. The eventual winner of Canada's domestic cup qualifies for the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League.

The Eddies and Fury FC will go head-to-head in a home and away round, with the winner over both matches advancing to face the Montreal Impact in the semi finals on May 7 and 14. Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Toronto FC will meet in the other in the semi-final.

The ACC will be the first ever meeting between Canada's two NASL teams before they clash again in league play in May. The two preliminary round matches will be streamed lived on www.canadasoccer.com/championship.

Kick Off: Montreal Impact make it two titles in a row
    [IMG]

    MONTREAL DO IT AGAIN

A goal from Felipe was enough to see the Montreal Impact beat Toronto FC 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate) and win the Canadian Championship for the second year in a row (watch highlights here). Impact coach Frank Klopas hopes the title can help change his side’s season, while losing boss Ryan Nelsen is trying to look at the positives.
