My first thought when I saw that take down was the "which Blazer would be the best pro wrestler" bit they did. Meyers: they were just kidding.
That's my thought. He has heard the criticism but couldn't get into a game till now. He may survive in the NBA by playing dirty.
Meyers showed he's not going to be pushed around. Overzealously, to be sure, like everything else he does. It's a good sign, even if the execution needs work.
Meyers is a joke. I hope the Blazers don't extend the last year of his contract next October, let him walk like we did with Luke Babbitt and Nolan Smith.
Meyers will have to improve a lot to sign a contract here after the rookie contract ends. He still looks clueless and hopeless. Does he speak Russian?
That's not going to happen. Leonard actually is productive while on the court, and has a PER of 19.3 this season on 13.7 usage. Plus, he shoots FTs as a big man at an elite rate.
Meyers Leonard last year. Ortg 115 (best on team), Drtg 110 (lower end for team) Meyers this year Ortg 148 (best on team), Drtg 105 (above average for team) He's a nice project to have on a great contract, and big men typically take a while to find their groove. Robin Lopez was worse than Leonard his first two years in the NBA.
The first time I saw Meyers I thought przybilla attitude with offensive skills. He just needs work, I like his attitude, just needs to figure out the NBA.
Look at Joel P's first three years in the league. Not pretty. Lose the expectations for a couple more years. I think he will come along--just not quickly.
