I randomly decided to watch NBA countdown tonight and there was a video segment about the Blazers tonight, narrated by Bill Simmons. It was awesome. I know this guy has made a living being a Boston super fan (yet this year seems to be the first person to recognize how awesome the Blazers are this year), but the video he put together was really good and gave the Blazers major props. I can't find a video of it yet but I'm sure someone will be able to post it. I hope it ends up on the internet because it summarized everything the Blazer fans have gone through since the beginning till this season. It is super rare for anything done by ESPN to impress me, but this was just awesome and right on point.
Simmons has been onboard with Portland this season before many Blazers fans were. He loved all the moves Neil Olshey did in the offseason and was one of the few national critics to pick us to clearly make the playoffs.
It was a sad story, but accurate, and cool to see Portland being mentioned on a night they didn't play.
He sort of did. In his NBA preview, he did rank the Blazers #16 overall but he did was more impressed with the team than Jalen. They ended up betting each other if the Blazers would make the playoffs. Simmons did say yes. But he has been supporting the Blazers since the win over the Pacers, while most "experts" were calling it a fluke. He has not stop the support for them being legit team since.
Yup, Simmons did not have Portland in the Play-offs, despite him being somewhat complimentary of Dame, CJ, and Olshey.
In the video, Simmons says that when we had Sheed, Blazer fans called the team the Jailblazers. No, we didn't. That was opponent fans talking.
One lady with a paper crown and the words "jail blazers" on it does not constitute "Blazers fans" calling the team that. The term "Jail Blazers" was stupid, and a lie. The only reason people said it was because it rhymes. Assholes.
