Has this already been mentioned? http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/531841/20131227/omer-asik-portland-trail-blazers.htm#.Ur1arGt5mSM I don't want any trades but I could live with this one. I don't think it would kill chemistry for Lopez to get a little help.
That would be an absolute steal, and that's EXACTLY the kind of deal that I thought Neil would throw at Morey. I figured when they said that we were the wild card that we probably had some kind of standing offer to Houston, and that's exactly what this is. This is a standing offer in case Houston couldn't find anything better for Asik. If Neil can pull this off, this would be a STEAL. It also would explain why Leonard has been playing. Showcase.
With the 2014 pick going to Charlotte the next pick we can trade is the 2016. This is more of an idea than anything.
The rumor makes sense though.... Leonard just suddenly getting PT out of nowhere? I just don't see how Claver/Leonard/future pick is enough for Asik. Sure seems like a lot less than they were looking for. It also says "or 2016" for the draft pick.
Sorry to be mr. buzzkill, but I think Houston can get a lot better than that (although nowhere near what they were asking for).
In a vacuum, absolutely they can get better, but right now his value is shit. I think they found that out the hard way with their little self-imposed deadline. I think Neil told Houston that the best he can do is Claver/Leonard/future 1st, take it or leave it. Standing offer if they can't find anything better. It makes sense. It also makes sense why Nards is suddenly getting playing time out of nowhere. Getting Asik for that deal would be great, and I would be psyched if Neil pulls it off, but I also think it's a longshot. I think that's the standing offer that Neil made, and I don't think there's any guarantee that Houston takes it. If Asik hasn't been dealt by the deadline, I think this deal could be snapped up. I guess we'll see.
I don't think there's a buzz to kill. I think this is the absolute MOST people would give up - and even then, if it doesn't go through, it doesn't really matter.
The pick is tricky because assuming we aren't top 12 this year the earliest we can trade a pick is 2016, but we can't trade 2016 pick right now If they continue to play Leonar_, this deal has no chance of happening. Other teams can't see him play If Lopez and Asik are both cool with it, then fine. I don't see how you can bench Lopez though after his early season performance.
I think the language that would be used is that we'd trade our "first available" pick, starting in 2016, and HOU would know that, barring a catastrophe, they're getting the 2016 pick.
But doesn't Aldridge use the same agent as Lopez and Asik? Maybe Olshey asked the agent to see if Asik is fine being back-up? Maybe Asik was fine with that? Just throwing darts here:
Unless theirs a 3rd team involved (where Robinson is traded to that team), the Blazers would have to add Freeland into the mix, because Robinson can't be traded to Houston. This trade, as rumored, CAN'T WORK. Why are we debating it, let alone acting like it would even pass the sniff test?
I said this in a previous thread, but some agents might really appreciate Olshey's honesty. Maybe Asik is more upset about being brought in to start and then a year later have someone else brought in. Maybe he and his agent are cool with Olshey saying things like Lopez is our starter, and Asik will be the back up at 4 and 5. Although I am not sure he can play 4, but that's another discussion
yes, they would just about have to throw in Freeland or Leonard to make this work, or all three of Barton, Crabbe and Watson. Something that would work is if we swapped a couple SF's also. Wright to them and Brewer to us. But that wouldn't seem to make sense. Trading two guys that help space the floor for two guys who won't. Unless they thought Crabbe could fill Wright's role.
If Asik doesn't want to come off the bench behind DHo in Houston why would he want to here behind Lopez?
That's one advantage with Olshey. He's got good relationships with players, agents and other GMs. I'm sure if this was considered an offer, Olshey had to of talked with Asik's agent before even considering it. This isn't a deal I think is going to happen, but we can give Olshey an "A" for effort. And if he can pull it off, he would have to be GM of the year.
This. I think the key pieces would be what's mentioned and you only need to add Barton and the deal works.
