The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned rookie defensive lineman Micanor Regis. "Regis is a kid we think has a lot of potential," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He is big, physical and knows how to use his hands to disrupt the passing game." Regis (6-3, 310, Miami) will be entering his first season in the AFL. He signed as a undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL after finishing his college career. Regis played four years as a member of the Hurricanes. As a senior in 2011, he competed in ten games, starting six, and finished sixth on the team with 41 tackles. Regis also notched six-and-a-half tackles for loss, two sacks, and a team-high four pass break ups. As a junior in 2010, Regis played in 12 games, starting the final ten. For the year, he registered 42 tackles with eight-and-a-half tackles for loss to go along with three sacks. In 2009 as a sophomore for Miami, Regis appeared in all 13 games, picking up 19 tackles in the process. As a freshman in 2008, he saw action in ten games, and record eight-and-a-half tackles (seven solo) on the season. Press release from the San Jose SaberCats
