Let's take one thread and give god his due. Let's glorify him. So Let's discuss it. What has the Son Of God done in your life to change it for the better? Or what kind of miraculous stories do you have to share? I'll start. My father was diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago. It was diagnosed by five different doctors at the Veterans Hospital in Portland. It was growing at an alarming rate. Doctors didn't want to autopsy or operate for fear of a collapsed lung. Word got out at their church and they started a prayer chain that not only reached their neighborhood. But it got out nationwide. Prayer chains were ocurring not only within the church but in many areas around the country. Three months later when they went to take pictures of the lung, the same five doctors who diagnosed the lung with cancer, came away scratching their head because the cancer was gone. It wasn't there. Something miraculous happened. Two weeks before that, my dad got up from his chair, stood up and felt this sharp pain in the back region where the lung was located. He swears today it was god working his power to cure his cancer. Who can deny it? Two weeks later he went to go the same five doctors and they couldn't find anything. It could only be one thing. Jesus being Jesus. His faith in Jesus in the end took care of him. It's an awesome story to this day. There are many more stories. But this one here is the most significant one.
When I was in Navy bootcamp one of the guys in my company (tough guy from New York) was off from everyone and was pretty upset and crying. He wanted to talk to me (every company had a designated "religious officer" and I was it since I was the only one who attended church at all) and he had just been informed his grandmother had just died after a very brief illness. Well, as it turns out she raised him as he had no parents (for reasons I cannot remember) and due to some mixup he was unaware of her illness. Anyway he stormed off and beat the snot out of someone and was sent to the brig. He presumed he was also to be kicked out of the Navy. So I was called for as he wanted to see me and I went to the brig and all he wanted to know was 2 things- 1. Was God real?, and, 2. Is it possible his grandmother (a hard living woman) might possibly go to heaven. I assured him God was indeed real and that the old saying that 'He moves in mysterious ways' was also very true and maybe to try having some trust and faith and see what happens. So, about 5 days later we were all leaving boot camp to schools... and as I was walking out he came running up to me and wanted to know he had just received a letter from his grandmother she wrote him from her deathbed. I cannot recall all of it, but she wanted to tell him she had found faith in God a few weeks before she became ill and was going to tell him, but was going to wait until he came home on leave. She also stated she was truly happy and so forth... for the first time in her life. Also, the Navy had decided to drop the charges against him (given the circumstances, that was no surprise) and he was off to his school. Anyway he was pretty happy about it all and so forth. It was all very touching.
Thank you, a very good story. It brought back memories of several guys from NY in boot camp. Damn near a different breed as were the ones from Chicago.
nothing. neither has Spiderman or the Hulk. EDIT, actually not nothing, all three have brought me some entertainment.
well, god killed a couple hundred thousand babies today, gave a couple hundred thousand single mothers cancer, watched while women were raped and tortured to death in front of their kids, and burned a shitload of children alive in car crashes mysterious ways
All in all I think Christ is a pretty great guy, its his followers that are full of shit And if god is all powerful, come on man, ease up on the human suffering a little bit
San Diego here. For some reason I think Great Lakes was closed at that time, hence I was in with a bunch from NY and Chicago. I was aghast at our differences, while they were hip as all hell, they really didn't know common stuff. They were totally unfamiliar with weapons, could not swim, basic stuff. It was amazing to watch some of these guys on the firing line flinching in pure fear when firing an M1.
no need to be glib, who is responsible for the worlds human suffering? is god able to stop such things? why doesnt he? inquiring minds want to know.
I don't know. I give credit to the work of the creator, but have no experience with a personal Sheppard or nanny. It seems to me you are on your own to pursue life liberty and happiness. I am more than happy with that reality.
