The New Orleans VooDoo pick up their first win of the season as they shut down the Orlando Predators in the game's final seconds for a 62-55 final on Thursday night.
Tonight's game came down to the wire as the score was knotted at 41 after three quarters. The teams traded blows in the fourth quarter, but the VooDoo (1-2) used good defense and a late interception to control the quarter and hand Orlando (3-1) its first loss of the season.

The VooDoo opened the quarter with a four-plays, 45-yard scoring drive to take a 47-41 lead after the missed extra point. Orlando countered with a one-play drive as quarterback Jason Boltus found receiver Greg Carr for a 40-yard score for a 48-47 lead. Orlando tried and failed on an onside kick, giving New Orleans a short field from the Predators' 9-yard line.

The VooDoo turned it over on downs, however. The Predators extended their lead to 55-47 after Boltus threw a 33-yard strike to Gerald Young on their ensuing possession.

The Predators successfully recovered an onside kick, but the VooDoo defense held Orlando to no yards on the drive to turn it over on downs.

With only 14 yards to the end zone, VooDoo quarterback Kurt Rocco connected with receiver Larry Beavers for nine yards to set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Kevin Ashak. Ashak also carried the ball in for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 55.

New Orleans failed on the onside kick, which gave Orlando the ball at the VooDoo 9-yard line, but linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson intercepted Boltus on 3RD and goal to put New Orleans in business at their own 8-yard line. After Orlando gave up a first down from a penalty, Rocco threw a quick pass to receiver Larry Beavers. Rocco then found L.J. Castile for a 17-yard touchdown to put the VooDoo up for good. The Predators threatened in the waning seconds and were knocking on the door, but defensive back Eddie Moten slammed the door on Boltus's last pass to end the game.

Rocco played very efficiently, going 22/33 for 259 yards and six touchdowns. He also scored the game's first touchdown on a 1-yard run.

Castile led the way for the VooDoo with 12 catches for 138 yards and four touchdowns. Beavers also added a nice stat line with seven receptions for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Despite throwing for 375 yards and eight touchdowns, Boltus was unable to take care of the ball as he threw two interceptions. Boltus was injured for one play and replaced by backup Wilson Masoud, who also threw an interception. VooDoo defensive back Cameron McGlenn turned that pick, his second of the night, into a touchdown. Carr led Orlando receivers with 11 catches for 176 yards and four touchdowns.

Next up for the VooDoo is a road trip to Pittsburgh to take on the Power on April 11 at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the game on the Web at ESPN3.com or listen to the game on 99.5FM WRNO radio.
