http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04...s-replacement?abthid=5346c6467eb0922a6f00002a Well that was quick! Just a week after David Letterman revealed he was retiring next year, CBS have announced his replacement and it’s Stephen Colbert. In the past week, Colbert was said to be the frontrunner for the job. He has signed a five-year deal with CBS for the new series, which will debut at some point in 2015, after Letterman determines exactly when Late Show with David Letterman will conclude. “Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television,” said Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation, in a statement. “David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.” Stephen Colbert. “Stephen is a multi-talented and respected host, writer, producer, satirist and comedian who blazes a trail of thought-provoking conversation, humor and innovation with everything he touches,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment. ”He is a presence on every stage, with interests and notable accomplishments across a wide spectrum of entertainment, politics, publishing and music. We welcome Stephen to CBS with great pride and excitement, and look forward to introducing him to our network television viewers in late night.” As for Colbert himself, he said in the press release, ““Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead.” He added, “I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.” Obviously, this announcement means the end of The Colbert Report, though it remains to be seen when exactly that series will wrap up.
That is awesome, Colbert is one funny dude. Im getting tired of his faux Bill OReilly schtick though on the Colbert report, so it will be a nice change to see him in a different light.
The obvious first choice, Jon Stewart, has soured on the Talk Show biz recently as he has discovered a passion for directing, and hosting "The Late Show" wouldn't give him the flexibility he would require. Colbert is perhaps a funnier comedian than Stewart, but one wonders how he will transition from his right-wing "schtick" to a more conventional personna. Maybe he won't. CBS may be banking that he can continue the quasi-political comedy on their show, which would be an interesting gamble to steal younger viewers from Kimmel and Fallon.
So the Comedy Channel is supposed to be his poodle. What's stopping them from firing him for his disloyalty. There must be a contract clause that gives them an out. They could replace him with Conan or Leno.
derp. forgot about that, too. Well, then i guess CC will have an open spot to fill, or maybe they could extend Jon Stewie's air time.
