Steve Mason did not practice today for the Flyers so it appears likely that Ray Emery will start in goal tomorrow for game one. (CSN Philly and Philly.com)

Emery is 7-2 against the Rangers in his career with a 1.87 GAA and a .936 save percentage.

This season, Emery was 0-1 against the Rangers this season and allowed 4 goals on 35 shots at MSG.

In other news, Brassard was back at practice today.

11:55AM: Mason will NOT play tomorrow

I am thinking concussion. Seems to fit best given the circumstances.

Assuming the offense will be gunning it comes down to this

Lundqvist needs to outplay Emery. At this stage in his career he cannot be beaten in a series by this loser (yeah i know Emery played in the SC finals before).

Its coming down to Lundqvist pulling a Quick and just outplaying every other goalie

To me this means even more the Rangers need to shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. No fancy stuff. Get pucks on net. Shoot the puck. Make Emery make saves. AV said it yesterday, that the past few weeks we have gotten too fancy, especially on the PP. Get pucks on net, especially with a backup in.

I think Emery is a good solid backup, but he is a step down from Mason, and a big step down from Hank. No way to argue that.

    From AV:

“One thing that is consistent is that teams who shoot the puck the most on the PP have the better percentage. Lately, for whatever reason we have gotten away from that and maybe too cute and the PP, you get a lane to shoot and some net presence, put it on the net and get rebounds.”

There's nothing worse than when the Rangers get into that habit of over passing the puck. If there's a lane shoot or set up the man up high for a one timer. I hate when they waste 50 seconds doing nothing.

BTW...knowing how we operate against backups, I will most likely be sitting in MSG tomorrow at around 8:30 saying how are we not scoring on this guy as Philly leads 2-0...LOL.

Thats why it is imperative to win game 1 especially with Emery in net.

Game 1 is important. If we lose, as long as we win game 2 it is all good and not the end of the world, but I do agree considering we are home AND their backup goalie is playing, we really should win tomorrow night.

    We'll see...

This. Hank needs to step up. I'm sick of people saying he hasn't gotten it done in the playoffs, which is mostly true, but for many of those years his supporting cast has been pretty bad and he needed to hold the other team to under 2 goals to win. The team around him this year looks pretty good and should be able to score some goals, especially on Emery. But I'm tired of seeing Hank let up soft goals in the playoffs.

I agree. Hank needs to be sharp and not allow the Flyers an opening. No bad goals. As for the offense they need to shoot shoot and shoot some more.

Lundqvist had a .930 save percentage in the playoffs the past 2 years and was 32-32. Why is that???? Because the Rangers averaged like 1.7 goals a game in the playoffs in the Torts era. You are not going to win a cup scoring less than 2 goals a game in the NHL playoffs

Lundqvist was not the problem. The team COULD NOT SCORE in the playoffs. Hopefully that changes now
