They're selling NBA franchises for $550MM each http://www.bizjournals.com/milwauke...agrees-to-sell-milwaukee-bucks-wednesday.html
My guess--regarding the location guarantee--is if Milwaukee can come up with money for a new arena, they stay. If not, Seattle or KC gets a new team.
I've never really thought twice about them. What I mean is that I couldn't expend the energy to care about those stores one way or another.
Fuck Seattle. Dunno, will Miluakee keep the Bucks? Always a weird fanbase/franchise that you always kind of forget about. I mean the Sonics should be back.
They're going to have to pay to do it. The Seattle/OKC thing was a message to all NBA cities: Pay up, or your team is gone. I fully expect to see the Blazers be threatened with relocation in 2025.
Once every 2-3 months or so they send us a 10 dollar gift card in the mail for no reason. So once every 2-3 months, I go to Kohls and spend roughly 10 dollars. As for the story, happy for Bucks fans. On most websites, forums, and in person, Bucks fans have always seemed to be a pretty reasonable bunch. Hopefully the new owners aren't as inept as Kohl
I apparently have a Kohl's 2 miles from me. I think I've been in there once to look for underwear. They did not conform to my standards so I drove to Target.
The lease with the city actually runs out in 2023 so there are 9 more seasons of the Blazers being here and then I agree we are on the short list of teams likely to be relocated to a more profitable market. The Blazers are one of the least profitable franchise in the league who have had $100 million dollar losses in recent years. If they moved to a larger market the could greatly increase their local revenue. The Lakers got a $3 billion TV contract, while the Blazers comcast deal pays them around $100 million, big difference. Are Portland tax payers going to be willing to pay $500 million for a new arena? I probably wouldn't support it, and without a more profitable arena the team will look to move. The Blazers owner is a well connected Seattle resident who "saved" their football team and got them a ring. For some reason tons of Portland sports fans support the Mariners and Seahawks so if Seattle still is without an NBA team Paul Allen might try to sell it as regional NW Oregon/Washington team playing exclusively in Seattle.
Soo... what more profitable Market might that be? Portland is Ranked #22 telivision market and only Seattle, Tampa bay and St Louis rank larger and don't have NBA teams. BTW I seriously doubt Seattle is still without a team in 9 years.
Just to add to my point above.... Smallest to largest #53 New Orleans, #48 Memphis, #45 OKC, #37 San Antonio, #35 Milwaukee, #33 Salt Lake, #25 Indianapolis and #24 Charlotte are all smaller TV Markets. I see the Grizzlies and the Bucks as being far more movable than the Blazers. On top of that Portland is a city that is on the up and up and has leaders interested in being a bigger city.
Las Vegas is much larger, in terms of entertainment dollars. Anaheim almost had a deal to land the Kings. San Francisco no longer has an NFL team, they might be able to get public and private financing. The bay area is huge for only having one NBA team, and the Warriors play across the bay in Oakland. Mexico City and London are others. There are many similarly sized US markets that might not be larger than Portland but if they paid $500+ million for an arena the team would greatly increase their revenue.
Yes I would say both those cities are more likely to lose their team, but the Blazers are on that short list of teams that could relocate in the next decade. I'll be pissed if it happens but fans of more successful teams have been screwed in the past.
