    The Lyman Good situation

So Lyman Good was a champion over at Bellator when they were a pretty young promotion (maybe 18-months old). He's a decent fighter from New York. Great body. Very marketable.

Not a perfect fighter, though. He wasn't a good wrestler. That almost didn't matter though since he was dethroned by Ben Askren who is arguably the best wrestler in MMA history. This was in 2010 and since then both Good and Askren have moved on from Bellator.

So anyway Good had to do what a lot of guys from other promotions have to do to get into the UFC--try the Ultimate Fighter route. Kimbo Slice did it. The next season of TUF will feature almost all of the strawweight fighters from Invicta including their champ. It's just how the UFC tests fighters sometimes. Other times guys like Hector Lombard will walk into the UFC on fat deal. Depends on their negotiating power I guess.

Good got matched up with Ian Stephens in the qualifying episode last night (wasn't filmed last night but you know what I mean). To me this is a match-up that makes sense. Let's see how Good's wrestling has progressed. It hasn't. He got starched. But what followed was the typical ****y behaviour we're getting used to seeing from Dana White.

White and Edgar repeated that Good was "the Bellator champion". During his fight they trashed him, telling each other (the audience) that he wasn't good enough for the UFC. DFW said "you have to know how to defend a take-down or attempt a sub from your back [to be in the UFC]". So much for the Bellator champ, they exclaimed, once the fight was done. Then Stephens came up to them from inside the cage and said "Bellator champs don't belong in the UFC!" completing the narrative.

Lyman Good is a person. From most accounts a decent one at that. He's a fighter. He isn't the embodiment of Bellator MMA. He's doing what the UFC would expect him to do in trying out for a spot on The Ultimate Fighter with guys less experienced and accomplished than himself. Humble. For the UFC (DFW, production, and whoever else they coaxed) to mock him and kick him when he was down was some WCW level shit. Why not make him throw his Bellator belt in the trash on the way to the ring? Have some class, guys.

    Most boring TUF I've watched . . . and I'm a big TUF fan.
