We have no bench. We play no defense. Without those two things, you can't go deep in the playoffs. It is beyond me why nobody has learned yet that a team built entirely around offense won't have success in the post season. Phoenix pretty much proved that fact year after year with Nash and D'Antoni.
Well to be fair this team was built to just make the playoffs. This summer we need to go hard after guys like Shawn Marion, Tony Allen, Paul Pierce, Livingston, etc. Just some older dudes who can come off the bench and play D... pray it rubs off on the team.
The team will be back next year with a better bench(don't know about D.) and will probably put up a lot more of a fight then this. I know we have 2 games in the RG now, but it's easy to lose faith with how easy the Spurs have owned us.
"It's a process". I think if we adjusted the lineup, then it'd be fine. Stotts is so rigid with it, it kind of kills. We have decent bench players but they just don't get enough burn.
Stotts needs someone who understands defense. We played one scheme the first year he was here. He completely changed it the second year. Both schemes sucked and our defense has been shit his entire tenure.
The bench can be improved upon in the offseason, and guys like Barton/Robinson will only get better, but the defense has to be changed with coaching. I'm not sure Terry is the guy to get that done. We played horrible defense against Houston as well, but they would actually let us back into games. We're doing the same fucking thing against San Antonio, but they are a veteran team and they don't let us make huge runs.
That's mostly coaching... We don't pressure the ball. Bend but don't break defense. We have the players who can get steals fairly easily...
No, I agree with you. I'm just saying we're running up against our limitations as a team. We have no bench, or at least we have a young bench and Terry only played his shitty veterans all year so the young guys didn't get experience.
Welp, I hope we're learning a good lesson right now. The Spurs are certainly schooling us on the ways of the playoffs.
This is true. It was obvious because of how much he leaned on Mo Williams, despite the obvious fact that Mo is horrible.
