The Chargers picked up their fifth-year year option on defensive end Corey Liuget, league sources confirmed to CBSSports.com. Liuget is one of four players taken in the 2011 NFL Draft -- along with Jets defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson, Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith and Texans defensive end J.J. Watt -- to have their options picked up before the weekend. The deadline is May 3 for teams to pick up the options on players from that draft class. San Diego's choice makes sense: Liuget has 13½ sacks in 47 games since the Chargers drafted him as the No. 18 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He also has 122 total tackles, 13 pass deflections and two forced fumbles in his three years with San Diego. Besides his production, there's the obvious nature of the option year.
