The Texans traded up Friday to add to the 83rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, selecting Notre Dame defensive tackle Louis Nix III.

Nix is a 6-foot-2, 331-pounder who’ll squeeze into the Texans’ revamped 3-4 defensive scheme.

“I wasn’t expecting anything to happen,” Nix said. “I’m happy about it and pretty excited.”

Nix, who many considered a first-round prospect, could be a steal for the Texans.

“I fell. Some people had me first (round). But who cares? I got drafted,” Nix said.

The Eagles received the Texans’ fourth-round pick (No. 101 overall) and fifth-round pick (No. 141 overall) in the draft.

Nix lost weight for the draft and said his ideal playing weight ranges between 310-330 pounds. He’ll let the Texans determine his best poundage for the NFL.
