After five days of deliberation from Major League Baseball following the appeal of Brandon Workman's six-game suspension, the Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday that the right-hander's ban was not reduced and he will begin serving it immediately.

MLB executive vice president of administration John McHale Jr. upheld the ruling.

Workman was banned for throwing near the head of Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria on May 30. Workman's appeal of the suspension was heard on June 13. He pitched against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday while his appeal was being reviewed and was set to take the mound again Friday in Oakland.
