Free agent Carmelo Anthony met with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday and heard their pitch as to why he is the right man to become the next face of the franchise.

Anthony arrived at the team's practice facility shortly after 3 p.m. ET, and departed just before 6 p.m.

Escorted to his car by Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak on the way out, Anthony stopped to say hello to reporters and signed autographs for Lakers fans but declined to comment on the meeting.

"You know I can't say anything right now, but I wanted to stop and say hey," Anthony said.

A person who was in the Lakers' pitch said they thought it went "really well" and added, "I don't know how big of a shot we have, but I think we have a shot."
