Gasol is reportedly most likely to sign with the Chicago Bulls, who are in a holding pattern until New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony makes his long-awaited call on his next home. The Bulls would use Gasol at power forward next to Joakim Noah, the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, as a replacement for Carlos Boozer. Boozer could come off the bench if he is not released using the amnesty clause.

I'm okay with a 2-3 year deal for Gasol, with or without Melo.

Beyond three years is a bad idea and not worth pursuing.

At 3 years he'd expire at the same time as Rose and Gibson.

If our current salary structure stays the same the only guys we'd have under contract would be Noah and Butler on their new contracts and Snell.

IMO Gasol at 3 years isn't nearly as likely to be an issue as Noah and Butler's next contracts, which will likely spill over into the next collective bargaining agreement and possibly create Boozer-like cap issues again.

    ^^ this.

$16M to keep Boozer on the bench? I'll pass on that.

It's not exactly $16M to keep Boozer on the bench.

It's $16M whether you keep him or not. It's something like $10M in cap space they could have if they chose amnesty.

If they spend the $10M, it's costing them $26M for $10M worth of players for this coming season.

Minus of course whatever he signs for and dollars and space are not equal. I get the theory that JR throws nickels like manhole covers but if he is spending money one way or the other I think he'd rather have an asset -- that consensus seems to be Carlos no longer is.

I know you disagree with that assessment.

Gasol is ~ 2 years older but I'll throw in. Boooze did ok here for a while but its clear Thibs lost faith in him. Everyone craps on mgmt for pissing off Thibs in Adams-Gate. If Thibs has a player he lost faith in shouldn't mgmt oblige? We all agree Thibs is one of the best coaches out there right? Should mgmt indulge the coach?

Boozer, at worst, is our backup C.

Gasol would fill that role, but we don't have him.

Boozer could have been amnestied since midnight EST. He's still a Bull.

I don't think the chairman is cheap. His intent is max profit, not minimized spending.

Thibs played Boozer. 5th most minutes on the team.

At worst backup C? Backup 4? Backup Benny the Bull? Short skirt and pom pons? Boozer at best is C Space waiting to happen.

Maybe a good thing. Maybe another burn. But here? Dead weight on the books and less dead but dying weight on the floor. Best of luck in San An or wherever. Thanks for the favor. Smell ya later.

Slag on Hinrich, some deservedly so, but he can be had for a pittence and serve a function.

I think he's here unless traded. I stand by this as is have all along.

Ironically, it may be Pau who ends up in San Antonio.

You can't argue with he is here until he isn't.

There are certainly a lot of possibilities and dis dat and danother in play.

    I'm being quite specific.

The Bulls might trade him. See ya later, Booz!

If they don't trade him, he will be on the team until we go through the trade rumors again around trade deadline time.

    That's not what I wrote.

He's here unless he's traded. No amnesty is my prediction in the case he's not traded.

I disagree but hey you could be right. Maybe he ends up clogging the bench with a bloated contract. Hope not. But you may be right.

If I am right, then it is the bottom line that drives the team's decisions, not winning.

Or you and GarPax have more in common as talent evaluators than we could have dreamed.

As I see it, they're willing to have the big expiring contract on the roster for next year.

That'll be what you'll be telling me all next season. Because garpaxdorf said it (after they keep Boozer).

If Boozer's on the opening day roster, GarPax will have had an awful offseason.

I honestly don't get the Boozer hate.

We dislike the opportunity cost that Boozer represents, not the caliber of player he is. If Boozer costs you Anthony he has to go. If Boozer costs you Gasol . . . I'm fine with that. Hell, we know Gasol's just going to be costing you other players you'd rather have by like February, right?

I think McBuckets, Mirotic and Kirk is an okay offseason. Switch in DJ for Kirk and that's a solid off season, as compared to what you can hope for.

Chicago is a kind of shitty city. Players don't want to live there, which I get, because I'm not living there anymore either. It has nothing to do with ownership, or franchise dynamics or budget. The LA Clippers were a destination with lunatic Sterling running the show.

If McBuckets' game translates to the NBA, we might not care about whiffing on Melo, Love, etc.

He's so not typical of Bulls picks since BG/Deng.

I've been dubious about Mirotic because I am down on the Euro player wager in the first place.

If he signs and pans out, too, Rose is going to have an easy time getting in the lane.

If the two parallel the careers of Dunleavy and Channing Frye, we are going to remain mediocre for a long time to come .

The Clippers are a destination only recently. Since they traded for Paul and then Rivers.

The players are attracted to a city where they can make a super team of the franchise.

I think Taj sold them on something else. Thibs is gold . Don't mess with him.
