So in total, the Bulls gave up five draft picks to get McDermott - but so far, he has proven to be well worth the cost. Even though he struggled in Game 1, he is now sixth in scoring in Vegas (20.3 points per game). He is shooting .485 from the field, including .524 on three-point attempts, and .947 on free throws.

Even though he isn't necessarily known for his passing, McDermott is also tied for 10th in assists so far in Vegas.

As a team, the Bulls Summer League squad really could not have played any better. Not only have they won all three games by an average of 25.7 points, they have two of the three 100-point games in Vegas. They have also won all 12 quarters they have played

Even though he was admittedly nervous and struggled in his first game as a pro, in his next two McDoug has averaged:

    26.8 min
    56% FG
    56.3% 3's (8 att/game)
    100% FT (7 att/game)
    25.5 pts
    3 reb
    3.5 ast
    .807 TS%
    .740 eFG%

I'm cautiously optimistic. Who's guarding him?

Look at how great Lonny Baxter was in Summer League, he was MVP.

Look at Tony Snell. I would LOVE to see him score 27 PPG in the NBA. Yet, my expectations are something between the 8.0 PER he put up for us last year and a 15 PER. If he does score 27 PPG, he'd have a PER well over 20, and we'd be the dominant team in the league by far.

No defense in the summer no doubt, but what his passing is a hell of a lot better than we were lead to believe. That being said, with this team, no opponent can just double and triple team Rose and win that way. McBuckets and even Snell will make you pay. Not to mention, Gasol, Mirotic!

Bulls were 4-1 in summer league last season.

Teague with the dominating 18.3 PPG!

That Goudelock guy was amazing, too.

And whose running the offensive sets?

Works both ways. I'm impressed he is showing as well as he is despite him being a guy who thrives in a more structured offense than what summer league offers.

His numbers will go down, as he no longer is the second option and his minutes decrease.

What do you want me to say? He's odds on favorite to be MVP and ROY?

A wise man once told me, "that's why they play the games."

Looking forward to tonight's game vs. Philly.

Philly's summer league team is going to look a lot like its regular season team, and they have a lot of athletes.

    Bairstow vs. Noel

McDermott vs McDaniels (A guy I liked before the draft, and who's a very good defender).

Their play vs these guys might provide a better signal than previous games.

Okay, it looks like McDaniels is slotted against Snell, who's gotten the better of him so far.

I agree with this. I think I saw Rosenthall mention that he likes how McDermott works off the ball. I don't feel like I have a good read on that yet. There are some flashes (not counting the game tonight which we'll write off because he just looked tired) -- like that spin cut to the free throw line in the TWolves game. But there are also long stretches where McDermott can't seem to get open. Like he didn't work himself free once while playing that point guard-power forward high pick and roll stuff he was doing for stretches during the Wolves game. I'm not sure if that's his fault or the fact that he's playing with a point guard who doesn't really know how to work those situations . . . probably a little of both.

In general I think the guard play was terrible on the Bulls last night. McD looked like he had lots of looks, and there were quite a few times when he was waiving his hands because he was wide open but guys were too busy calling their own number to pass him the ball.

Some of it is poor vision. Large part of it is trying to showcase individual skill for a chance to stick to a roster.

The rest of the games, assuming the Bulls keep winning, will be shown live on NBA-TV. Their quarterfinal game is tomorrow night at 7 PM CT.

I'd add a lack of clearly defined roles to the mix. Watching summer league, and in more particular Dougie McBuckets hanging out in the corner, reminded me a lot of watching Mirotic in years past on Madrid. When you're dealing with some teammates who may not quite have NBA vision and everyone has the green light, the ball doesn't always find the open man.

Rosenthal: I still think you're letting McDermott off too easily. Snell didn't have any trouble getting touches. McDermott would have seen the ball more and in better locations if he had a better feel for positioning and getting open. He's a rookie. That's how it goes. I'm not particularly worried. I'm just terrified by the rumors I've seen under which the Bulls ship Dunleavy and expect McDermott to start from day one.

Don't feel bad SST, that article currently has 539 unique page views, so at least that many people are as obsessed with entirely meaningless, mediocre basketball as we are. :D

Absolutely not. As I'm typing this, I have NBA-TV on the TV waiting for the Bulls-Sacto Summer League game.
