Fruit recall expanded by another 5 days to ensure safety for the public

    Wawona Packing Company has expanded recall of white and yellow nectarines and peaches including plums and pluots that were shipped from their Cutler warehouses from June 12 to July 17. This is because they have discovered that the fruit may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. The Food and Drug Administration urge people to discard the fruits if they are still in their possession.

    During the internal testing, the company noticed this problem and immediately shut down their packing lines. The equipment was retrofitted after being sanitized and the packing lines will reopen only when Wawona considers it safe. Wawona believes in highest standards when it comes to food safety. Company president Brent Smittcamp says “We have brought in nationally know experts in food safety to investigate every part of our packing facility, and we are working with the U.S Food & Drug Administration.
