https://twitter.com/Uber_PDX Uber (and Lyft) is fucking great. Cabs suck big huge donkey dick. Support getting Uber to Portland bros and chicks (and anything else). :MARIS61:
Do they hire random people for driving services? If so, that is a pretty good way to open up some jobs. It would also be sketch if there wasn't some background checking going on.
whats the deal? my buddy is signed up to do it in boston when he is down there but he hasnt got crackin yet
Its a great way to hustle as a side gig. Not sure about full time but if you're unemployed or underemployed, its a good way to make some extra cash if you're not doing anything at night. You can also choose to work when you want to. http://blog.uber.com/driverscreening The drivers are rated by users and I believe if a driver gets too low of a rating they are no longer allowed to drive on the service. I think the same goes for passengers as well. Keeps the asshole out on both sides. I use it all the time in LA. It lets me go out and drink without having to worry about driving. It lets me take a car to the beach where I don't have to fight for parking or crowds or parking meters.
At least in LA, its considerably cheaper (30-40%). You can pay with your payment method stored on your smartphone. Tips are figured into the final price. Its also faster and more reliable. I used to use taxis to go out, I'd have to call in to a central call center to summon a cab, then they'd say 5-15. The taxi is requested, but anyone can hail the taxi even if they are scheduled to pick you up. I've been frequently fucked over with cab drivers never showing up. With uber, you book a driver, you see on a map exactly where that driver is and how long it is until they get to your pickup spot. And for the most part, the uber drivers are just normal bros. They are friendlier and easier to talk to, wheras the taxi drivers are usually out to hustle you.
I know a few people who use Uber to get to Chargers games. Way better than dealing with traffic and parking. The beauty of Uber is that government isn't regulating it, though they're trying. All you need is a car and a map and willing customers and you can make money. Entrepreneurial. But not if the government requires you to by and uber-expensive (pun intended) taxi medallion.
i would think lots of dudebros would sign up to do it so they could pick up drunk chicks all night long and get mouth hugs in the alley
Its one of my goals to bang my driver. I've had a few cute chicks pick me up at times, but thought they might rate me down if i get their number or something. i've gotten a feeling some were down but who knows, it gets into a grey area and I don't want to get reported, i think the safer thing is to get a number and hang out off hours.
well, hustle with uber means you just make extra money when you're not doing anything. with taxi drivers they always take you the long route, charge an extra dollar for every passenger, etc. most of the time, in PDX I have been ok with cab drivers, some aren't the friendliest and some seem downright shady. some cab driver had a system in his car, it seems like a bunch of them will hook you up with yayo if you wanted. bunch of random north african driver types, kind of weird. also hard to get cabs at random times as well.
Sounds like you need to start driving and running the D.E.N.N.I.S system. D- Demonstrate Value E- Engage Physically N- Nurture Dependence N- Neglect Emotionally I- Inspire Hope S- Separate Entirely
Vancouver could put the skids on a popular ridesharing service less than a month after it announced its arrival to the city. http://www.columbian.com/news/2014/aug/14/vancouver-questions-legality-uber-rideshare/
Seems like a great job for rapists and muggers. That's okay, I prefer not to depend on strangers for my freedom of movement unless absolutely necessary.
as an update, my bro that goes down to boston has got it cracking a lil bit, goes down friday and saturday night and makes 400-500 a weekend, has an escalade so he gets a lot of bigger parties i guess
