The point guard controversy should be over now, folks. Folks in Chicago do not want to hear the truth, but the truth is this: Derrick Rose has not looked very good except for a couple of very brief stretches. He shot 0-for-3 today with one assist and three turnovers, he was 3-for-6 at the line, and he was a minus-4 in his 20 1/2 minutes and got toasted at least twice by Goran Dragic. Kyrie Irving, meanwhile, was a plus-39 and scored 13 points with three assists (FIBA statisticians are notoriously stingy when crediting assists) in his 24 minutes. Coach K told Marc Stein of ESPN.com that he was considering alternating Irving and Rose as starters when the World Cup begins. At this point, that would be silly. Irving is clearly the superior player right now.

Wow! That was some damn profound international exhibition game Mr. Sheridan watched.

I agree guys. I am watching the game now. Had it taped.

He based this on one game. Rose doesn't look "bad" so far.

    Rose missed a reverse.

And was fouled driving to the basket, and fouled in the lane. He will make those shots as the season goes on.

Rose looks fine to me. He doesn't have to be MVP for USA to win. And as transplant said, this was exhibition.

    Almost halftime

Irving having a nice offensive game.

The game is hard to watch.

If Kyrie beats him out, it doesn't matter what anyone's opinion of Sheridan is.

Nothing against Sheridan, I just don't think Irving can pass Rose by in anything other than real NBA games.

I would wager that 90% of the people watching the games would agree with Sheridan.

Rose has been passive with his offense and has looked rusty.

I don't think this is kryptonite for Rose's comeback efforts, but it's not an exaggeration to say his play hasn't been all that inspiring for Team USA.

A lot of Bulls fans do agree with him.

Yeah, I don't really see how this is news. Irving has played better than Rose in all of the games except the one against Puerto Rico. Irving is playing better now at this point in Rose's recovery.

Edit: I also don't think Sheridan was implying that he expected Irving to be better this upcoming season, although he might and that would be reasonable.

Given Rose's 2 years off I would be surprised if this wasn't the case. Irving has been playing at a high level since Bill Walton found him in the couch cushions. I normally don't favor Bulls playing off season but was good with it because I'd rather have him shaking the rust and adjusting his game on someone else's dime so long as he doesn't re-injure.
