...win lose or draw, I still think the Yanx took the right approach in attempting to avoid TJ surgery until it was determined that it was in fact necessary. The procedure has a good success rate but there's always that slim chance that it does not heal as hoped and the pitcher is never the same again.
...as it stands now, if they determine that TJ surgery is needed, they really only lose him for an extra 2 months more than they would have. I'm still hoping for no surgery. And there have been cases where the partial tear of the UCL has healed itself. It may be wishful thinking, but I'm still hoping.

 

...that's my hope too...I would expect some soreness after not throwing at all for 2 months.

 

I was just about to post this also. The question now is, do they shut him down & go for the TJ surgery & hope that can return perhaps late next season or do they continue to work on the soreness with PT & wait to see what happens? The question though on option 2 is the longer they wait to make the decision, lets say till the end of the year they risk not only losing him for all of the 2015 season but also some of the 2016 season.

 

It all depends how the current non surgical therapy is working. He could get another round of PET, etc. If imaging shows positive results in partially correcting the tear.

 

...^^^ this...there's no reason at this point to jump the gun...there have been cases where surgery was not necessary...there have also been cases where a pitcher has has more than one TJ surgery and still never returned to normalcy.

 

Platelet therapy is working...go another 2 rounds in the off season with strength rehab and throwing. TJ is the last resort.

^^^^^^ Thanks. So they knew that 6 weeks was the most optimistic, but 12 weeks was the average. Plenty of time to make the series roster.

 

...I was surprised when I read that the doctors said it was only a "10% tear"...I was under the impression that it was worse than that. But as minor as it is, and as young as Tanaka is, I gotta believe that the PET has very good chance of correcting the problem.
