...there were many who said this guy is a "can't miss" player. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11430581/seattle-mariners-jesus-montero-gets-altercation-scout
Would have liked to seen what happened had Montero had he stayed but when he was traded my attitude was what's done is done. Until this year looked like Seattle had gotten the better end of the stick but as the old song went time changes everything.
...^^^yeah, I remember at the time of the trade there a lot of people jumping up and down about it...but I knew that it would take awhile to determine which team came out on top of that trade. ...if Pineda can continue to stay healthy and mature mentally, I think the Yanx will have a great asset for years to come.
Seem's to me, Montero, then a 16 year old Venezuelan Catcher, was given 1 Million $$$, to simply sign, or was that sing..... What seemed like the Yanx Top Catching Prospect, (a few or more years back) went bust real quick.... Ya' never know about these prima-donna kids these days.....!
There were quit a few of us that I recall that thought it was a foolish trade. I'm more then happy to say that we were wrong.
I still feel Montero would've developed into a good hitter and avoid his problems with Seattle if he was allowed to bloom as a Yankee. He seemed to be zeroed in on those RF-RCF seats at Yankee Stadium and in his brief post-season appearance he did hit. 2-2 / 1 RBI... a lot better than many others on those Yankee teams from that short era. Of course when you can get a young stud-like pitcher in Pineda, I can't blame the Yanks for making that trade.
