The Detroit Lions will be without their second round pick for at least half of his rookie season. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy, the No. 40 pick in May's draft, was placed on injured reserve/designated to return on Tuesday afternoon as he recovers from core muscle surgery, which he had Thursday. Under short-term injured reserve rules, Van Noy cannot practice for six weeks and won't be eligible to return until Week 9, the Lions' bye.
