I appear to be the only person who views this video and thinks that it wasn't the punch that knocked her out, but her head hitting the railing in the back of the elevator. Yes, he hit her. Yes, it's egregious. Yes, his suspension is warranted. But I think TMZ's claim that he "delivered a vicious punch to his fiancee's face, knocking her out cold" is inaccurate, inflammatory, and irresponsible.

WTF? I'm sorry my face got in the way of Ray Rice's fist?

I just don't get it. For much of my life, I have been bigger and stronger than most (I grew quickly then flatlined). The lesson that was drilled into my head from when I was a toddler was that I was never to hit anyone significantly smaller or weaker than me unless threatened and NEVER hit a woman, no matter what. If you have a fight, and they get agressive, you wrap them up until they calm down, but never, never, never, ever strike them.

Ray Rice is not tall, but he's fucking Hercules compared to this woman. She wasn't going to hurt him with a few blows. He could have easily subdued her by wrapping her up, or just let her beat on him for a while. Instead, he went Tyson.

It says they married a month later. I bet the prenup was changed in her favor after this incident. No matter. She should run. Anyone who would do this once, will do it again.

The casino that happened in did just go out of business so that evil elevator will never do that to another woman again.

Goodell should resign, this is a complete joke, and the Ravens should cut this guy immediately. Who am i kidding though, they kept a murderer around for years and are even going to put a statue of him up outside their stadium.

Mock all you want, as you know that's not at all what I said. But I ask, had that rail not been there, had her head not hit it--does this situation even see the light of day?

It would be like if a drunk driver hits another car and knocks it off a bridge, killing the people inside. The drunk driver is still in the wrong, is responsible for the results, but the surrounding circumstances amplified the negative outcome.

Rice is in the wrong, clearly--but is it all that unreasonable to look at more than just that one aspect of this, or to speak about it accurately?

You have no proof that it was the rail and not the punch that knocked her out. Doesn't matter if her head hit a rail, the ground or someone else. His punch was hard enough to cause her to be knocked out. That is a vicious punch.

The Harbaugh brothers are a joke

Jim Harbaugh and the Ravens should have stepped up and suspended Rice themselves.

John Harbaugh went back on his word and allowed Ray MacDonald to play week 1. Pathetic.

The brothers, Ravens and 49ers are a joke right now

If he cut McDonald before the legal system had a chance to play out, there'd be a lawsuit filed the next day against him. Now, if or when it comes out that McDonald did hit her, and at that time he does nothing, then I'm all for ripping on him for it. But he did say if convicted/guilty of it.

I have no proof that the real knocked her out. You have no proof that the punch knocked her out, or even that it was hard enough to do so. All either of us know for sure was that Rice hit her, she went down, her head hit the rail, and somewhere in there, she received a blow to the head sufficient to knock her out.

However, I think, based on what I've seen and experienced, that it's much more likely that the rail knocked her out than that the "punch" did. Honestly, the video is so choppy that I can't even tell how he hit her.

Sounds like the Ravens dropped him. Good for them.

They already have 2 crappy RBs on the roster, no need for a 3rd.

NFL can't keep its players out of trouble. So much nonsense about drugs/owners with DUIs, etc., MLB is losing interest from the most important demographic because it's so boring and has no marketable stars. And steroids made it worse. MLS is still mostly irrelevant. NHL is similar.

Contrast all that to the NBA, which just got rid of its most contentious exec in an instant, leading to a massive increase in teams' worth. Fan interest is ridiculous even in the off-season with focus on the draft and free agency. Its stars have stellar records and stay out of trouble, and are all very marketable. News today on twitter said the incumbent networks are bidding double the value of the previous media contract. And fan interest around the world for the NBA is higher than it has ever been, whereas the other leagues appeal almost exclusively to the domestic market.

    Adam Silver ftw.

Employers should not punish employees for off-work behavior. That's what the legal system is for.

The employer might get embarrassed? Tough.
