The Seattle Seahawks have placed starting nickel cornerback Jeremy Lane on injured reserve/designated to return, a league source confirmed Monday.

Lane reinjured a previous groin injury during the team's 36-16 season-opening victory Thursday night over the Green Bay Packers.

By placing Lane under the IR designation, it means he could return in eight weeks and resume practicing in six. It's the same thing the Seahawks did last season with offensive tackle Russell Okung, who missed eight games with a torn ligament in a big toe. In Lane's case, it would mean he could return for the Nov. 9 home game against the New York Giants.
