No thread on this guy??!! Maybe Bonzi Wells knew something we didn't! http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....-worse-hawks-owner-called-for-firing/related/ Sent from my baller ass iPhone 5S...... FAMS!
Even the guy defending Deng describes him in a derogatory way! He's not African American! He's BRITISH!
And I think we should be clear here: this is less racism than xenophobia on Ferry's part. He's slurring Africans rather than simply black people. (Not that that makes it excusable.) Also: is he describing Deng's GAME (i.e., it's not as good as it appears, or something like that) or his character? The latter would be pretty ridiculous, since he is universally regarded as a great guy. But the former would also be odd, if more understandable.
Paul Allen waited a year to interview for GM. His first interview was Danny Ferry. I forget whether that was at the start of the year or the end.
Ferry claims he was reading from a list of things said about Deng by people in the organization, not his own words. FWIW Seems to me he should have outed the guy who made the derogatory remarks.
AND NOT READ OUT THE COMMENTS! Seriously, first of all, PROOF READ before you're in a conference call with your bosses. And second, even if you DIDN'T, when you get to those words don't you, y'know, STOP READING? And one of the bosses apparently gasped in shock - don't you at that point SAY SOMETHING, like, "yeah, that was inappropriate, wasn't it? I'll look into it."
Would it be just as racial if a black executive like say Billy King, called Birdman 'white trash'? Just curious
or at least say, several times "REMEMBER, these are NOT MY WORDS. I am reading them because I wanted to expose what some in our front office/group/whatever believes, and how we need to address that. THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS."
What does "just as racial" mean? You are known for your restless and relentless pursuit of knowledge.
Many people would consider it understandable if you used harsher language on a felon than on a model citizen. This would be more akin to calling Pryz "white trash".
We stereotype here all the time. Whether we are talking about Euros, American born white bigs, or players from the universe of Syracuse. I did not read the article but my first thought was the guy was just being detailed. Kind of like a personality advanced scouting report. Can where a player is from, be a factor if he will be content in a certain city? I know I am personally down on drafting Spaniards. They have too many other options.
Przybilla was kicked out of college. I personally think that Qataris are overrated, but I ignore them and pick on spoiled Kuwaitis.
