Supposedly he disciplined his kid with a switch. Not sure if there is a problem with that, unless he went way overboard. I mean you only need to scare the kids for christs sake

My parents and generations before that got this done as a common occurrence.

It's no wonder kids are ungrateful shits nowadays. Anything that happens is considered child abuse. People freak out when parents spank kids. sometimes people need to Get a life and mind their own business.

I think if the only way you can make your kid not be an ungrateful little shit is by hitting them, then you're doing something wrong.
And if hitting a kid to make him behave is ok, then hitting your wife to keep her in line should be acceptable also right?

Oh please. I don't have kids. But spanking a kid because he is wrong is not a bad thing.

The evil legal system is way, way, way overfunded. To spend their money, prosecutors must stretch definitions of everything (like rape) more and more every year. With China eager to loan, our government will have an endless supply of trials, lawsuits, wars, and spies, until the floor falls through on the economy when China tightens up.

Enjoy the overseas torture entertainment now, because the angry world will come for us when we can't afford the military. About 30 years from now. You young punks will pay. I won't. Heh heh.

minor bruising can occur from any type of physical discipline, so can welts. Lacerations however are over the top.

Mom spanked me with a wooden spoon a couple of times. Hurt, but it's not like I was scarred mentally for life, or turned into some crazy lunatic. The shit made you realize at a young age to listen to your moms. Until that is the spoon broke over my wrist! hah!

actually now that I think about it, in being disciplined as a kid, the stuff that I remember more now and must have "scarred" me, was the non spanking stuff. I.e. instead of putting me in the corner, there was a circle on the wall that I had to keep my nose in (and it was about a tippy toe height above where my nose normally would reach) My dad was pretty good at psychological warfare at times. I would taken Spankens 1 out of every 1 time over his innovative stuff.

A lot of things were common in the past that most of society considers barbaric today. "Tradition" is never a good argument for why a practice, especially a violent one, is fine.

Welts? Absolutely ok. Bruising? Maybe just a teensy bit. Lacerations? HELL no.

It used to be, some family professional would come talk to the parent and warn him that he was going too far.

Now, a first offender gets 3 years in prison. The cause is that since Reagan and 1981, the government has given up on giant deficits. (Nixon's Revenue Sharing program had made the Federal government perpetually subsidize the state governments.)

When this board debates things like drug use and family fights, you conveniently leave out how many years of prison time you think is right. Your estimate will be much less than the actual sentences being handed out. (That's why a jury is never told what the consequences of its verdict will be. No one agrees with the horrific sentence lengths.)

So... when are people going to finally stop watching the NFL and see it for the joke that it is? Or are people going to blindly follow it because they were told to love it?
