In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the Minnesota Vikings scrambled to stuff as much toothpaste back into the tube as possible concerning the mess that is Adrian Peterson.

Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf put out a statement that places Peterson on the Exempt/Commissioner’s Permission list, which will require he stay away from all team activities until his child abuse case is resolved. Peterson will still get paid, and the move allows for the Vikings to fill his roster spot.

It’s more fancy than the words suspended or barred, that’s for sure. The option of the “exempt” status came from the National Football League, which asked the Brothers Wilf to revisit the Peterson situation. The Vikings owners are scheduled to speak at a noon press conference.
