A Secret Service agent had his gun pointed at the White House intruder Friday night but decided not to shoot because he was unarmed, sources told Fox News on Saturday.

The incident occurred Friday at 7:20 p.m. on the north side of the White House, about four minutes after President Obama, his two daughters and a friend departed in helicopter Marine One on the South Lawn. They were going for a weekend trip to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. First lady Michelle Obama had traveled separately to the retreat.

“It’s always a split-second decision,” one of the sources told Fox News. “The officer may have shown good restraint. Why kill the guy when the president and his family are not even there?”

The source told Fox News that investigators think there was only one intruder and that officers thought the situation was not difficult to contain.
