Not always agreeable with Verducci but on todays MLB Now show he commented "If you don't like Derek Jeter, you don't like baseball" . Jeter is getting all of the recognition he's earned, that Yankee Team just won't seem the same with him not in the lineup after this season.
______________________________ Yep- and I know I have mentioned it before, but I believe he's solidified his place, imo, as the greatest all-around shortstop in history. Right now he is being appreciated (rightfully so) as a great Yankee playing his final days - but in the coming years/near future, there will be talk of who the greatest SS in MLB was. I say it's Jeter - he was a "good" if not GREAT defensive SS with multiple Gold Glove awards. A starting SS for all of his 20 years which by itself is a major accomplishment, he was a more versatile better offensive force career-wise than any other SS with 20 or so years of service ---> BA, RBI, HRs, Stolen Bases, baserunning ability and post-season performance. He's the best. Some may have been better defensively, some may have hit with more power, some may have ran faster, may have had a higher BA -- but he combined ALL aspects better than any other. And I believe the numbers prove it.
Availability is a key signature and Jeter has always "been there". Heard Sutcliffe comment last night that Girardi took a lot of flak for running Jeter out there in the two hole, further commenting "what was Joe going to do put Ryan in there". We all knew Jeters numbers would be down, but we knew he'd be there and that is huge. Just think, the longest tenured player is now the druggist, think he's going to go out like Jeter, not in this lifetime.
I totally agree with everything said, less the one troll...... RE2PECT I heard the same by Verducci, and Sutcliffe..... For once in His life, Suck-cliffe finally gets one right...! LMAO...!

________________________________________ Good post and good article from Stark. All good. These are also some of my favorite Jeter stats: (7 WS, 173 PA) .321 BA, .384 OBP, .449 SLG% ...all higher than his career stats by at least 9 points
