"It's something we look at from time to time," Paul Allen said. "Obviously we'd probably need to have a strong partner in terms of the ownership of the team and those things and the financial picture would have to all pencil out. There are a number of hurdles to get over and the price of NHL teams keeps accelerating. It's something we look at but there's certainly nothing imminent at this point." A Trail Blazer source told Jaynes that "Allen continues to be very supportive of investing in things that are good for the Portland market." This is pretty much the only important part of the article.
Truth is, Paul Allen could have a NHL team here already if he really wanted one. That's why it's hard for me to buy into any of this. Like I said before, I think PA wants the Blazers to be the only pro team in town. Hell, he could probably have an MLB team here if he really wanted to.
This is my take also. Especially since the NHL and NBA season are pretty much the same time. We would have a better chance if they were offset more. The main road blocks with MLB and the NFL are the stadiums.
Allen loves the Blazers so much, that maybe Allen is afraid that if he ever brought another pro sports team to town they would be more popular than the Blazers when the Blazers aren't so Red Hot and Rollin.
I think PA is tired of losing a lot of money. He probably doesn't want to overspend on an expansion team that is going to suck for ten years and would rather steal a team for cheaper that may not take that long to be competitive.
This is my thought as well. An established team will be cheaper and have a better roster. I think the next relocated team is on it's way to Portland.
