Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Josh Beckett is retiring, he told MLB.com.

Beckett said he is calling it a career after the Dodgers were eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday night.

Beckett, who was a World Series MVP at age 23 and threw a no-hitter May 25 at age 34, pinned the decision on his health. He needs surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip, with MLB.com reporting the surgery will take place in May.

"I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch at this point in my life," Beckett told MLB.com.
