Re: UFC Fight Night 57: Edgar vs. Swanson (Nov/22)

I'd be interested in hearing everybody's thoughts on the Edgar/Swanson fight.

Bermudez lost tonight, so he's definitely out of title shot talk.

If Swanson wins, I'm guessing it's a general consensus that Swanson will and should get the next title shot.

However, if Edgar wins, who should get the next title shot: McGregor or Edgar?

Bout order finalized. Pickett fighting higher up on the card than Benavidez?

Re: UFC Fight Night 57: Edgar vs. Swanson (Nov/22)

Edgar had seven straight title fights and the last three were losses. I'm not in a hurry to see him in yet another rematch, especially one in which the odds of him winning would be long. I think there are still interesting fights for him in the division (Lamas & Mendes come to mind).

If Edgar wins the next title shot will go to McGregor, assuming he gets past Dennis Siver. If he doesn't, I have no clue! I guess then Edgar would be the favourite.

Does Cub Swanson need to win this fight to prove he isn't the Michael Bisping of the featherweight division?

Grudge heavyweight Josh Copeland makes his UFC debut tomorrow. Only at heavyweight would a 31-year old be seen as a prospect.

Copeland and Rosholt both lose. Not a good night for the American heavyweights.

Three of the biggest winning streaks in the UFC broken in the last two weeks (Bermudez, Green, and Swanson)

Odd night. Not a bad card...but somehow mildly disappointing.

Green's gameplan seemed to be less about winning and more about making Barboza look bad in victory. If Swanson had a gameplan - I sure missed it. For a guy supposedly well versed in BJJ, he looked like drek on the mat. Props to Edgar for turning what should have been a good fight into a rout.

The Rosholt hype train sure jumped the rails fast. Couldn't finish when he had the advantage and couldn't survive one good punch. Not a good combination!

Can you tell Bobby Green trains with the Diaz Bros.? Sheesh

Edgar's conditioning is unreal. He went full blast for 25 minutes. There were other times where the fight was close to being stopped but Swanson kept squirming out. He showed some looping punches and short-lived take down defence but otherwise was dominated for the whole fight.

OO's KO was fun to watch. Nice to see a veteran of the sport get a win here and there. The HW division in the UFC, once again, looks pretty bad.

gotta love MMA judging. One judge had Pickett winning 30-27 and the other two gave it to Chico 29-28. I though Pickett had it 29-28 but I guess looking busy (but not being that effective IMO) gets you the win.

Frankie looked great... vs someone who couldn't defend his take downs. Not sure a title shot rematch ends any differently though. I would LOVE to see him face Connor McGregor... McGregor couldn't stuff the takedowns either and he'd be beaten soundly by Frankie too.
