Hello All, Hey I am here to promote a marathon gaming event sponsored by Extralife.org in support of the Children's Hospital Network. Myself and my team will be playing video games for 24 hours straight to raise money and awareness for this great cause. I still have a few spots available on my team and making a team is easy as well. I would love if any of you would be willing to join my team and play for charity. I would be even more grateful if you would agree to sponsor my play and make a donation to my hospital, which in this case would be Dornbechers Children's Hospital. To join my team or make a donation I will need your email address, if you are not comfortable posting that on the message board then please PM me and I will send you the donation form or a link where you can join my team. The event itself will take play on October 25 official start time in 8 AM but if you can't make that work any 24 hour period over that weekend would be sufficient. Thanks
Here is the donation link to my site http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=99677 or you can donate directly on extralife.org if you want your money to go somewhere other than Dornbechers or just don't want to sponsor me.
But mom, I'm not just playing video games in the basement, I'm playing video games in the basement for charity. Now can I please have a hot pocket?
We will be blogging all night and are currently working on live streaming on twitch but that will be up to my cousin to set up.
May I suggest that you tell people why this important to you. Why Dornbechers. If I remember right you said that you work in teaching. Do you know kids that have needed treatment at Dornbechers? It's not that people here are stingy it's just that they don't know you very well. It's cool if you're doing this because you like video games but if there is a more personal reason you should talk about.
Thanks for the advice Sly video games to most of us have always seemed like an idle waste of time. Extra-life changed that dynamic by giving my hobby some extrinsic value. Giving up 24 hours to do something I enjoy and too benefit others was more than enough reason to sign up. Choosing just one hospital out of the network was very difficult, I mean there were several amazing hospitals such as Children's Cancer Centers etc. However, growing up in Oregon, Dornbechers always had a special place in my life. My grandma only invested her time and money in three charities while I was growing up. One was the Special Olympics, the second was the ASCPA, and the last one was Dornbechers. She used to drag me along when I was younger to play with the kids while she read to them or helped out in other ways. It does not take long for these kids to make an impact on you. It is truly saddening seeing so many kids suffering from terrible things like cancer, and other terminal illnesses. With so much sadness it made me feel great to be able to go in there and spend some time with these kids, have some fun with them and leave them with smiles on their faces. Living in North Carolina makes it impossible to go back to Dornbechers but if the least I can do from here is beg people for money and play games for at least 24 hours straight then I am going to do it. This is where you all come in, click the link above donate a dollar, 5 dollars or whatever you can afford and help the hospital bring some joy to these kids or aid them as they seek cures for things like Lou Gehrig's disease or cancer.
