Thompson is 3 years younger and has a higher ceiling, but right now.... http://bballbreakdown.com/2014/10/28/is-wes-matthews-better-than-klay-thompson/ watch video. Homers will love it!
Wesley was this team's third or fourth option most nights. Klay is more like second. It's sort of an apples and oranges comparison.
It's really a tough call for me but I'm a huge fan of defensive effort. Wes trumps Klay easily in this department. I think that metric is what pushes me to believe Matthews is better for us. Now if we had Beverly, or any other defensive pg instead of Lillard, I would choose Klay.
I thought the metric showed that Klay was the better defender? In any case I think from an offensive analytic standpoint Wes is better. (3 pointers and shots in close) But overall I think Klay is better. But i don't think he is worth the max.
Nice! Klay is very good (and clutch in the fourth quarter, when Curry tends to vanish), but Matthews is perfect for our team. We should never ignore what he does. (And he's currently on fire from three.)
Maybe, maybe not. Klay as a "2nd option" isn't creating offense, he's having offense created for him - similar to Wes. So, in the way that matters, they're the same and the comparison is appropriate.
Sadly this is not true. With that said Wes and Aldridge are our only two starters doing anything for us. Rolo has been ok and well, the other don't even deserve to be mentioned.
Wes and Thompson are very comparable players. Both are lights out from distance - a slight edge to Klay. Matthews is the more diverse offensive player as he can go to work in the post, while Klay has the better handles. Wes is also a much better defender but Klay is a little younger.
Thompson is a very good defender who regularly guards the opponents top scoring option 1-3. I appreciate Wes and think he's solid defensively but Klay is superior on that end of the court to my eyes. They are definitely comparable players, but age and length give Thompson the edge STOMP
Certainly Matthews at his salary >> Thompson at max. (which is what he's seeking). We'll see how much Matthews actually gets.
This wasn't a bang for the buck comparison I thought? Sure, Wesley is a better 'value' but he's really not in Klay's orbit when it comes to a player's ability to tilt the court. I like Wes and it shouldn't make me a hater to say that he's the lesser of the two players.
