We've got two weeks to train Brenner up, and our next two opponents are Colorado and Oregon State. He'll be fine.
Brenner is a super smart kid and freaking strong too! Grassu's you don't replace, nor the chemistry he has with his best bro Marcus, but if this has to happen Brenner can and will step up! The best news is the meat of our schedule has passed until the Pac-12 championship and playoffs and that will give Brenner a working month with the 1's. What's the scoop on Grassu? Is his knee hyperextended or worse? As for Brown did he break his hip? My deepest thoughts go out to he and his family!
It sounded like Grasu failed the ligament test. Could be an ACL or MCL. Either way he's probably done for the year. Brown snapped his leg in half. He's done for the year.
Ya know I played LB for a good chunk of my time in sports and I can only say that these kids are getting bigger stronger and faster every year without question! I wonder if at some point this sport may just become to damn dangerous! Freak accidents happen almost every game that in a split second change lives. Lord knows I love this game but kids like Brown, Grassu, Johnstone, Fisher, Andre going down like this make me question this sport more and more every day. One of my coaches always said, it's not the hit you give or get, but the one you didn't see coming that changes everything so keep your head on a swivel! Did anyone see the actual hit that broke Browns leg or was it in the pile? I only saw him on his back after, screaming, something tells me no size of swivel could have prevented this! DAMN!
Didn't even look like he got hit. He just stepped wrong or something. Maybe he got pushed, but it wasn't some major hit.
I get a bit nervous everytime I see a pile up. I don't know how injuries aren't even more common when you have guys getting their legs wrapped up while others, hit them high. RBs in particular. Doug Brenner is a big guy...but needs to work on his snaps.
Both injuries were non-contact. These guys need to lay off the creatine and start fueling their body with some whole milk.
Two things can be equally true. Oregon should still be able to move the football vs these two, but two much better teams come after that. Losing Hronis is a huge loss going forward... hopefully he's not done for the year. STOMP
Knowing that the ducks don't comment on injuries, we most likely won't get any update on him, but from what they said during the game it didn't sound good. The sideline reporter said they did the ligament test and Hronis was pretty upset with the results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Losing Grasu is HUGE. We were bailed out on a couple low snaps, but that can throw the timing of the whole play off. Which in a rhythm offense, can be a death sentence. VERY thankful for the bye and Colorado. But I do not want to go into Bowl season without him.
Most fans really just don't understand how damn important a healthy O line and the chemistry a QB has with his center is! Greatwood should be O line coach of the year for this Duct Tape season!
Could be being optimistic, or cryptic, as there arent many games left in the season as is. But Hamani says Grasu is expected to miss a couple games. http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2014/11/hroniss_grasu_expected_to_miss.html
We have till December to get Grasu back. The Bye, Colorado, and Oregon State will do good to build up Brenner. If he does good with Marcus, he could stay in for ASU due to Grasu would be coming in cold
I'm optimistic. If he's healthy enough to be evaluated on a "day to day" basis, that's a really good thing. "A couple of games" in this case is most likely precautionary as Col & OSU are games we can win without him. Rest up for ASU big guy! (Or whoever we play in Pac 12 Title Game)
The more I watch Brenner interviewed the more calm I feel about him taking over for Grasu not just this year but going forward. This kid seems very bright and confident and he just has that center focus about him.
This brings up an interesting situation. Remember how kelly got Justin Ropper ready to play in the bowl game against UCF a number of years ago? Wonder if we can judge helfrich in the same manner? Helfrich actually has a leg up as breener's been in the system almost two years.
